Playing with Shadows; Celeste arrives

Celeste's wings were getting tired when she decided to land near the lake below her and try to find something to eat. After a slow gradual descent she flared her wings and gently landed near the tree line around the lake. She walked into the trees for a few minutes before stopping and sitting perfectly still, listening for anything that was moving. After having waited patiently for a while she heard the bushes uder some of the trees rustle not far to her left. Striking quickly she caught a pretty good sized rabbit in her jaws, and swallowed it whole. 'That should last for a little while, now to practice,' she thought as she extended her senses out feelig the shadows around her responding to her silent call. Gatherin the shadows together she used them to make a somewhat dragon shaped figure a bit larger than herself, also making it somewhat solid so that she could spar with it.
After her training sesion she let the shadows return to their ormer wispy shape, and had them dance around in the area around her. Celest loved watching the shadows dance, it was beautiful to watch the wisps of darkness sway and twist in the air like a ribbon caught in a breeze. She was relaxing, enjoying the shadows when a new shadow passed overhead.

(This isn't my usual quality.... still getting over being sick.... ugh. Pray you don't get it. Too much coughing!)

Plata was cruising overhead when she saw a strange sight. A dragon was sparring with what looked like a shadow. She banked, and headed towards the dragon. As she arrived overhead, she noticed the shadow had vanished. What exactly is going on? she thought as she dove towards the ground. As she landed just beyond the dragon, her wing clipped a tree. "Ow! Jeez..... Can't I do anything without hurting myself?" She turned her head and started licking her wound. So much for a dramatic entrance. She walked towards the dragon, suddenly realizing that this dragon was female. Interesting.... She stopped. "You're not a clan dragon. Who are you?" She snarled. Then she realized what she was doing. "Sorry. I'm kinda territorial. Hard trait to overcome. I'm working on it. Let me ask again. Who are you? And do you need anything?"

Celeste saw the new dragon clip her wing on a tree as she came in for a landing. After hearing the dragon's question she said, "understandable, my name is Celeste, would you like me to heal that for you," she asked as she pointed towards the new dragons injured wing. "And to answer your other question, I am not yet part of a clan, but would like to join one, so that I can put my healing talents to good use," she said relaxing a bit and letting the shadows resume their dance in front of her while she waited for the other dragon's response.

"Thank you. You can heal it if you wish. As for joining a clan, I'm sure my clan, the Furick Clan, would welcome you with open arms. Argaloth and Krii are good clan leaders. They should welcome you with open hearts." She bobbed her head. "Actually, I'm a scout. Not a very good one, though. As you've just seen. I could be much better. But we could use someone with your talents. You would be a great scout. I don't recall if we have a healer. But with your skill, you woul be welcome."

When Celeste heard the dragon say it was alright for her to heal her wing she steped forward, concentrated on the magic flowing inside of her willing it to heal the wound, and touched the tip of her snout to the injured wing, and watched as the wound seemed to melt away, replaced with healthy tissue. "There, all better, and I would love to join your clan, but I don,t tihink I would make a vary good scout as theonly reason I knew you were here is because I felt a new shadow enter the area around me, plus I enjoy playing with th shadows too much," Celeste said as she took a few steps back to examine her handy work. 'Perfect, mother always said I was a natural born healer,' she thought and before she could stop it the memories of betrayal washed through her mind.

A much younger Celeste was running around a forest meadow chasing the wispy black shadows she had called to play when she heard, "wat is this evil." She turned to see her mother looking Angrier than ever. "I was just playing," she said letting the shadows return to where they belonged. "No, you were working evil, you are never to work this evil again," her mother said harshly. "No, you can't stop me from being myself," she said deffiantly. With that statement her mothe hit her across the face with her hand leaving a gash across her left eye and said, "if you want to work evil then leave and never come back, if I had known you would turn out evil I would have destroyed your egg when I found it in that cave," before turning and walking away. Celeste flew away devastated, and began the search for her mother which brought her to Selzar in the first place.

"Oh, before I forget do you know of any female dragons that lost an egg in a cave in about twenty years ago," she asked hoping that maybe this dragon or someone she knew, knew about her true mother's whereabouts.

"I heard a rumor about a young one being lost, but I never knew who it was. And please understand. Your magic isn't bad. If anything, it's a gift. You have great power." She turned her head to lick her wing. "As I can tell. I have a gift for telling the power of magic. Just by healing me, I could tell you have immense power inside of you. So immense, in fact, that you could do a lot. But I know you wouldn't use is badly." She turned her head. "Come with me. We can go and see if Argaloth and Krii are at the camp. They are very friendly. Trust me."

"Yes, it was my egg that was lost in a cave in, it wasn't crushed but the caves entrance was sealed, another dragoness came and unsealed the entrance and found my egg before I hatched, I thought she was my mother for the longest time, at least until she gave me this," she sadi pointing at her scar, "but you realy know of my mother, do you know where she is, can you take me to see her some day" Celeste asked excited about having found someone who knew of her mother. "And thanks for that," she said refering to her saying that her wagic isn't evil. "I'm not evil, just misunderstood, thank you for giving me a chance, and I'll gladly go with you just lead the way," she said happily. 'I found a clan and someone who knows about my mother, how could this day possibly get any better,' she thought as she prepared to follow the other female dragon.

"I'm sorry, I only heard about it. I wish I could help find your mother, but I don't know where I would start looking. I have never seen a dragon like you before." She turned her head and started walking. As she was walking, she started to think. This poor dragon. She's about my age. I would feel horrible if something like that happened to me..... rejected by my parents. But what can I do?...... Wait a second!..... She stopped suddenly. "That's it! I know someone who you could spend some time with while we try to find your true parents! Her name is Argetwing. I don't know if she can help, but her parents left and never came back. I will see if she wants to talk." She cringed. "Not that it's anything wrong with you. She's just solitary. Meanwhile, I'll try to find out something about your parents. I have some friends in other clans. Maybe they will help!" She turned and started walking again. "And now that I think about it, we don't have any healers. I have the ability, but not the gut. I can't stand to see others wounded. But you seem to have no problem."

"Thanks, I think I would like to meet Argetwing maybe we could be friends," celeste replied enjoying the thought of new friends. "And I just can't stand to see someone hurt, I am compelled to help anyone who is injured," she said as she thought about what she had said. As she pondered over what had happened mthat day she remembered the first ime she used her healing magic.

Celeste was only about 7 years old and had been playing in the forest when a cry from her mother had her rushing back home. When she arrived she found a dead, large, male dragon laying next to her severely injured mother. "What happened," she asked distraught. "Nothing you need to worry about till your older," her mother repplied her voice weaker than ever. "Mother," Celeste called sadly. 'You have to get better, you have to,' celeste thought as she nuzzled her mother's shoulder. At that her mother's wounds stopped bleeding and became a lot less severe and a lot more minor. " Celeste, it looks like you have a natural talent for healing," her mother said standing up and gently stretching a bit. "Always remember to help those who are hurt, you have a gif and you should use it," her mother said proudly. "I will, I promise," Celeste promised.

'I still haven't broken my promise,' she thought sadly remembering her mother's last words to her. "Well shall we get going," she asked excitedly.

"Okay then! Off we go!" Plata said cheerily. But she didn't feel it. Not one bit. She felt sad and angry. Why did this dragon have to go through so much? In fact, why did any dragon? She snorted. Because that's life. And life can be pretty nasty. Oh, well. I said I would help, so help I will. She suddenly realized that she had reached the river. Right.... forgot about this. Haven't walked around here much.... Oh well. After the river we can take off. She turned her head. "We have to cross a river before we can reach the clan lands. The current can be nasty, though, so wait just a tick...." She turned back to the water and debated what to do. Well, it's summer, so iceing the water wouldn't be a good idea.... it could break. I could use wind to blow the water aside..... or simply tell the water to move..... but the water from uptream would just pour in...... "Um........" Well, I have to try something. Oh! I could use the wind to give us lift to fly over! "I'm gonna give us a boost of wind to help glide over. I don't think we should take off without it" She said, looking over her shoulder at the trees running parallel to the river. "We wouldn't have enough space." She felt the wind on her face, and pulled it, bending it to her will. "Okay, here goes nothing!" She opened her wings and pulled the wind upwards, hoping for the best.

Celeste was glad to be going to meet the leaders of the clan she would hopefuly be joining but didnt think that using wind magic to lift of in the forest with trees this close would be a good idea. "Wait, I don't think thats a good idea, I have a way to cross the river without putting ourselves in harms way," she said stepping up closer to the edge of the water. "There are enough shadows here with all the trees around that I could make a bridge to hold us while we cross," she said hoping that she wouldn't scare her new friend away. Clearing her mind and reaching out she felt out the shadows around her and pulled them to her before sending them out in front of her and onto the water, making sure to pour enough magic into them to make them solid enough to walk on. When she opens her eyes there is a black streak across the watter that looks like ink spilled across the surface. "It may look thin but it should hold us," she said stepping out onto the makeshift bridge.

"Well, I certianly hope so. After all, I hate rivers." She dipped her claw in the water and felt the current tug. "Correction. I hate rivers with strong currents. And this current is bothering me. It could be very dangerous." She stepped out onto the bridge behind the dragon. Don't look down, don't look down, don't look down... She focused on the back of the other dragon's head. "So, what's your story exactly? I mean, everyone here has a story. We all have gone through something. It makes us stronger, and holds us together. That's why this land has minimal threats from the outer world." She shook her head. "I take that back. That's why this land had minimal threats from the outside. But that's changing." She snorted. "Anyways, I'm not the best to explain that. If you want to know my story, I don't mind. You seem to be a nice dragon." She stopped and snapped her head up as she heard a noise. A cracking sound. "What is that?!"

Celeste and her friend were almost across the river when she heard a cracking sound. "Uh oh, run," she said racing the last few feet across. The second she and the other dragon were off of the bridge Celeste released the shadows back to where they came from. "Sorry I forgot that could happen, when you pull the shadow from something you destabalize it, if you stretch the shadow too much or hold it too long then the shadow and the original body of said shadow will weaken and collapse, with a living creature, taking their shadow causes them to become paralyzed and unable to move, the longer you hold the shadow of a living creature the worse off they are, their internal sytems start shutting down and eventualy they all do, the only thing is that the larger the creature the longer it takes and you can't hold a shadow once you move so far away from the original body or you lose your hold and the shadow returns to the body," Celeste explained as she made sure the shadows had returned to their bodies and had not been destroyed and that the trees she pulled them from hadn't either.

(Sorry, my muse is pretty dead today......)

Plata ran after the dragon across the bridge. "Well, at least we made it across. I already got clean today." She took the lead. "We're getting pretty close. We can probably take off and fly the rest of the way. That should get us there before it gets dark." She looked up at the sun. "Looks like it'll be dark in a few hours." She turned and looked at the dragon. "We need to protect our territory, and coming in at night is a good way to get attacked." She started forward, then began to take off. "By the way, I can't remember if I introduced myself. My name is Plata. And you are?"

"My name is Celeste Shadowdancer," she repplied taking off with Plata to head towards a new home. "You said you had heard of my mother, do you think your alpha or alphess might know more about where she might be," she asked trying to make conversation to make the time pass more quickly. "From what I've heard my egg was in a cave when a cave in sealed the entrance, I heard that my mother tried for days to get through to me but couldn't, about time for my hatching the dragon I thought was my mother broke through the rock and got in to claim the cave, I was later told that she could not lay eggs of her own so mine was a miracle to her, everything was fine until she found out about my shadow abilities, she called me evil and gave me the scar over my eye before telling me to leave and never return and that she should have destroyed my egg when she found it," Celeste said with sadness washing over her at the end.

(sorry, had lotta stuff to do that was suposedly "more important than a rp site." I debate that point, but anywho.....)

Plata heard the dragon's voice change at the end of her story. "Wow. That's really harsh." She cringed. "Sorry. I didn't mean to be so blunt. You are truely amazing. That must've been incredibly difficult." She sighed, then looked up at the sky. "I hope that some one knows more about your parents than me. I'm pretty ill informed. But there will be somebody. I had to hear it from someone." She spotted a small cloud in the sky. It reminded her of a heart with a rip down the center. Kinda felt familiar. "Well, why don't I tell my story? Normally, I keep stuff like that hidden, but you just feel like you are someone I can confide in." She perked her head up. "Hey! See, there's a good quality! No one who was evil would be able to project such an aura of calm! You aren't evil. Trust me."

"Well, here it goes. I haven't told my story very often, so this is strange for me. But I'll do my best." She lifted her head again, looking at that cloud. She sucked in a deep breath, then began. "My father died before I was born. I never knew him. My mother was killed when I was 4. At least, that's what I think. Wolves killed my sister. She went after them, and never came back. I got hungry, so I went and found food. That was when I met up with Oro. My mother was always telling me about Selzar, so we headed in the direction we thought it was in. A dragoness found us and took us in. When I was 13, I headed here. But a storm hit me, and knocked me unconcious. I lawoke on raft of ice. I flew towards the mainland, which just happened to e the Furick Clan's lands. I joined the clan, and here I am."

Celeste listened intently as Plata told her story. "It may have had a sad start but your story does have a happy ending doesn't it," she asked as she thought over all that she had heard. She felt better after what she had said about her being good, and projecting an aura of calm. "I wonder what the other dragons will be like in the clan, I wonder if they will be as nice as Plata,' she thought as they continued to fly on towards their destination. As they flew Celeste thought over the way her day had been going so far and as far as she cold tell it had been a pretty good day. The sun was starting to set and Celeste was admiring the beautiful colors produced by the setting sun. She was admiring the reds and pinks and oranges and all the other colors streaking across the sky in a beatiful mosaic when she saw a mountain range ahead of them.

(I know, I know, it's short. getting back into the swing of things. Everyone is dying around me, so it's kinda hard to focuse. Yeah. very hard. :crybaby: )

Plata looked at the sky. "Wow. It's really close!" She looked around. "I think we should rest here for the night. Something tells me we shouldn't go on. I don't know how to explain it." Except that it's wierd... She looked down towards the ground, only to see a small clearing. "That should do for the night." She circled, then landed, her feet thudding on the ground. Turning around a few times, she lay down and lifted her head. "So, I've been meaning to ask you. I hope this isn't rude, but here goes. Do you ever feel afraid of your power?"
