Nyx was using her last reserve of strength as she flew over this new land, hardly visible in the night. It was about an hour after Sunset. She had been flying over the sea so long, it felt good to see solid ground once more. Once she found a good place to sleep for the night, She'd land there and rest awhile. Nyx could faintly hear the sound of rushing water and began to fly toward it. She landed about a minute later at the base of a large waterfall, her wings aching and sore. There was a natural pool of water that reflected the white stars, just tiny pin holes in a black cloth. The moon was a cresent, a tiny silver in the sky. It was a cold night, a night of frost, but she had little energy left to go and find another place to sleep. Nyx sighed before digging a hole in the icy ground and using her flame to burn a small bit of moss, more for light than anything else. As she stared into the tiny flame, Nyx tried to ignore the aches in her muscles and wings. But despite the ache and cold, Nyx was happy, and only one thing would make her happier. If only Ra'ev were here. But he will be soon. Hopefully. We started when the moon was gone, and stopped on that island when it was full... Were we... Really... Flying.... that long? Nyx yawned as her thoughts grew fuzzy with exhaustion, revealing her teeth before curling up by the pool. I... Should sleep.... I... need to.... rest.... Nyx's eyelids drooped and shut as she drifted deep into sleep. The early dawn light was what woke Nyx. She stood and stretched before looking around. Everything was bathed in a sort of golden tint and the water in the pool had a thin layer of mist clinging to it's surface like pale thin seaweed along the bottom of the seafloor. Nyx looked at her reflection in the water, seeing her scales coated in a thin film of frost, before she plunged her head under. The cold of the near frozen water immediately awoke every one of her senses. She pulled her head out quickly, sending a spray of water onto the frozen ground behind her. Gasping for air, Nyx looked towards the gray sky of impending winter. Nyx sat again on the ground to keep from any more frost forming on her scales before starting to rub the frost off the scales she could reach. As she continued defrosting her scales, Nyx looked toward the volcano that was easily visible above the trees. Something about it was... wrong. It didn't belong there. She made a mental note to ask someone what it was once she got to know the dragons in this region. That would be easier without Neferet. The red ring around Nyx's pupils pulsed at the thought of her sister's name and a small growl escaped her throat. No, I must stay calm. Remember what happened last time I lost my temper. Nyx stopped and took several breaths to calm herself before continuing to remove the frost from her scales, not even noticing the faint scent of another dragon. |

Alara walked on all fours through the forest of trees, right next to the water. Her claws dug into the soft, warm dirt as she walked along, thinking about things she hadn't thought about lately. Mostly, her mind just settled to day dreaming. She got a scent of another dragon, but her day dream was still underway, so she paid no attention to it whatsoever. Her tail swayed lazily as she had a big yawn, revealing her sharp and white teeth through the specks of sun that reached through the trees. Her scales shown beautifully in this shade of trees, and she enjoyed the thought of her beauty, but it was quickly diminished as she heard a slight growl. The scent of dragon was strong, but she hadn't thought much of it earlier. She stayed in the trees, looking and crouching as she could see another dragoness. She was pitch black, and it sent a chill running down her spine. How she hated the color of black. It meant darkness, and darkness meant fear. It also meant danger. A growl came from Alara's throat, as she watched this dragoness, not sure if she should step out and greet her, or if she should stay in the trees and mind her own business. Instead, she took a step forward, out of the trees, but she kept her lip back to bare her teeth for safety. |

As Nyx finished defrosting the last of her reachable scales, a sound caught her attention. She turned rapidly to face it, prepared for a potential fight. The spikes on her back were spread open and her wings were outstretched. She had lifted her tail slightly, ready to swing, the spikes on her tail bristling. A low growl escaped her throat, more out of instinct than anything. She noticed that the blue dragoness had only revealed her teeth, not entered a combat stance. Nyx relaxed her position, lowering her tail and spikes. She couldn't lower her wings though, as they were still sore from yesterday, and moving them that fast had made them hurt when now they were moved. She quickly folded her wings again, wincing a little. She looked at the blue dragoness. She appeared to be a bit younger than Nyx herself, but she was very pretty. She probably had a mate, and if she didn't, then she would find one fast. Nyx looked at the dragoness before beginning to speak in a bit of an apologetic tone. Sorry for that. I'm Nyx. What's your name?Great, that's a greatfirst impression, going into a combat stance. Nyx shifted into a sitting position, feeling cramps beginning to form in her wings from her flight last night. |

Alara was startled at this dragoness's response. She stepped out of the trees fully, with her wings tightly pressed against her body. The chill air was making Alara cold, and she wished the air would warm up a bit, but being so close to the cool water, it would no doubt change much temperature. Instead, she walked over to the dragoness, looking at her with her curious eyes. The dragoness introduced herself as Nyx, which Alara thought of as a good name. An embarrassed smile came across her face. Nyx seemed to be a mood changer in the matter of seconds. "I'm Alara. I'm with the Juthivar clan. I just recently joined, actually. What brings you here?" She sat down beside Nyx, looking up at the trees. |

Nyx smiled, being sure not to show her teeth when Alara introduced herself. It's nice to meet you Alara. When Alara asked what had brought Nyx there, the smile seemed to fall off her face and shatter on the frosty ground. Nyx was quiet for a bit, looking at the ground as she tried to figure out how to properly phrase her response and also how much she wanted to reveal. She took a deep breath before beginning. She tried to look Alara in the eyes, but Nyx's gaze kept drifting downwards at the ground. I... I'm trying to get away from someone. I think I finally lost her. Oh, no, she's not here, she's across the sea. Nyx looked up at the clouds overhead, colored rosy pink from the dawn light. I hope... Nyx looked back at Alara. So, you said you were in the Juthivar clan. Are there other clans? |

Yeah, two others. Alara hadn't looked at Nyx when she said this. Instead, she was too much into Nyx's reaction with how she said it. She seemed anxious, almost like this dragoness was coming back for her. Alara's curiosity churned up inside her, and didn't seem to go down. If she asked the question wrong, Nyx might think differently about her. Excuse me if I ponder, but who is this dragoness you fear of? There's two of us, and only one of her. You have nothing to fear while you're with me. Her words were almost like what a mother should say, but that motherly instinct seemed to kick in, no matter how old Nyx was. Nyx didn't seem like any condition to be fighting, while Alara had the strength and energy to help her, along with her magic. Do you want me to catch you some food? You don't look so good... |

Nyx noticed that Alara wasn't looking at her when she replied about the other clans. Did Alara find Nyx's appearance unsettling? Nyx pulled her wings about her, so to hide a few of her scars. When Alara asked who it was Nyx was running from, she looked down. As she listened to Alara's logic and her offer to catch something for Nyx, she slowly began to raise her head. You don't have to catch me anything, just give me a second. Nyx turned her attention to the pool of water. She noticed several fish that had apparently gone over the falls from the lake or river above. Concentrating, Nyx lifted a claw and swept it through the water and then back out. Two fish lifted into the air and Nyx caught them both on one of the spikes on her tail before pulling them off and swallowing them, bones and all. Nyx shifted back into her prior postion and looked down at the ground. As for your earlier question, I'm not afraid of her, but what she can do. Do you see these scars of mine? Nyx raised one of her wings to show her side. After she was certain that Alara would've seen them, she dropped her wing again and looked back at the ground. It was her doing that they exist. She did not inflict them with her own claws though. No, she would just hurt herself, minor nicks and scratches, then run and say that I had caused them. Nyx began to speak a bit louder and faster as her anger at the past, herself, and her sister, gradually grew and made the red ring around her pupils darken and begin to expand. I protested, but who would you believe? The younger, normal, innocent "bright spark"? Or the elder, twisted, dark "shadow"? Nyx dug her claws into the slightly frozen ground, the red ring around her pupil expanding a bit faster at the memories. And when I finally left, she followed my, just to watch my world burn, telling stories and lies. To fight her would only prove those stories, and no one trusted because of how I look, no one thought that maybe her stories were lies, like I tried to tell them. Nyx looked at Alara, her eyes narrow and the red ring spread to cover about a quarter of her iris. You might be wondering, who is this draoness I describe? Nyx took a shaky breath, calming herself and making the red ring shrink back to it's normal size before closing her eyes and looking down again. Her next words were mere whispers. She's my sister. |

A red ring formed around Nyx's pupils. Fear and anger for the dragoness she was talking about wouldn't leave Alara's heart. She had to do something about this. She couldn't just leave this alone to wander away forever. And then there were those words. Her sister caused her this pain, her own blood and sibling. How could they do such a thing. The scars on Nyx's side made Alara flinch, but she knew what she was getting herself into. Three words rose to her throat, and they were filled with anger and bravery. Where is she? More anger filled her heart, turning it cold. Never did she want this dragoness to suffer again, but would retaliating cause more hurt to this dragoness? We must fight back. I'm not going to let you go through pain again when I'm around. I know that I barely know you, but this shouldn't go unscathed. Please, tell me where she is. Her eyes were pleading and besides, she hadn't been in a good fight in a long time. Now would be a great time to liven her mood. Please tell me? |

Nyx was surprised at how much Alara wanted to help her. The only other dragon who had ever believed her story had been Ra'ev. Guilt swept over her. She shouldn't have left him there, but at least one of them had to reach this new land before Neferet did. It was selfish, but the whispers and stares had to end. Nyx closed her eyes as Alara asked again for Nyx to please tell her where her sister was. Probably... five days flight over the sea. But I'm not sure. Nyx opened her eyes again and looked into Alara's. But are you sure that you really want to help me? She can easily change her stories so to attack you too. If you were to create any mark, she'll say that you fought and killed her companion, and somehow she lived with only that as a mark. She'd be more than happy to call you a murderer to anyone who'd listen. And you'd be surprised how people change once they think you've killed someone, and how they still won't trust you even after it's proved false. Nyx was much calmer now, but she still remembered some of the stories that Neferet told. How she so readily accused both her and Ra'ev of killing a dragon for the sport of it. How she said that Nyx would blind people with her magic to see them run around without seeing where they were going. How Neferet made Nyx sound just like her. She'll tell people.... She'll tell people that you've killed with shadows. |

Alara was ready for a fight, but when Nyx said about her sister and the lies she would tell, fear crept through Alara. But even though she just met Nyx, the injustice was too plain to leave alone. Something had to be done, and Alara wasn't going to let that pass up. But she wasn't going to stand here saying nothing to Nyx. To the people who believe me are truly my friends. I don't care about the others who won't believe me and believe her. I just can't go on with someone I know badly hurt because of another living being. I'm going to change this, no matter how early I met you for the first time. I'm a good fighter, and a fast fighter at that. But there was still one thing that hadn't gone on. By the fact that I have no idea how to make shadows, it's pretty tough. I can prove that she's wrong, and that she's caused you and probably others, so much pain. You must trust me on this. It's two against one...of course, if you join me. With that, she stretched her muscles, and she felt jittery inside. Alara wanted to take care of this harrasser, and end this once and for all. |
