A single raindrop fell from the sky. It left a spot on the dry ground. Deloi slowly heaved her head and looked up at the darkening sky. More raindrops started to fall, faster and faster. Soon, everything was coated with a thin layer of water.

Deloi’s eyes, which normally are full of emotion, where musty. She saw nothing, heard nothing.

And felt nothing.

She couldn’t allow herself to. Not today. Not on the memorial day of her abandoning. Even though two years had past, and she found a place to live, to call home, the deep wound had never healed. And it probably would never do so.

Why? The question kept repeating itself inside her head. Why had Silia left her all alone? Had she done something wrong? Was she a bother to her? Deloi had thought that Silia was a key to her lost memories. She has always hoped that Silia would tell her who her real parents where, and where they lived.

On this one day of the year, Deloi’s happy mask fell, for it was a mask, and not her true feelings. She silently wished not to be alone anymore. It didn’t matter who or what would become her true friend, as long as this feeling would go away.

Deloi let her head fall down onto her front paws, and sighed deeply. Not wanting to think anymore, she closed her eyes, concentrating on the feeling of the rain falling onto her scales.

As she was on the verge of falling asleep, she heard a dragon land near her. She lifted one heavy eyelid, but it fell close immediately. ‘Whatever…’

The skies were becoming darker, a storm building itself upon the horizon. The minuscule amount of stars that were still visible in the sky becoming invisible as the darkened clouds started moving in front of them. Raindrops began falling along the outskirts of the storm. It was light at first. Hit or miss whether you got hit with one as they were falling or not. Slowly, the pace of the raindrops started picking up and began getting a bit heavier as the storm finally made itself known. It wasn't a big storm though, as there wasn't any lightning shooting through the clouds or from the sky. It was a relaxing night for Nira. She hadn't been in the happiest or the most cheerful of moods since her mate and adopted daughter had disappeared some time ago.

She laid her head down on her forepaws, Why did you guys leave me? What did I do wrong? Nira thought to herself. She really couldn't figure out what it was that she had done, but all she knew was that she was once again mate-less, and it was hurting her. I guess I really am meant to live this life without a true mate of my own.. she said to herself pushing herself up into the rainy skies hoping that a brief flight would make her feel better.

It worked to some extent. The refreshing sensation of the rain water rolling off of her wings and body as she sped through the vale of rain. She landed near the Falls of Vervion. The rainfall on top of the falling cascades was both relaxing on the mind and on the body as she felt herself feeling better inside. Her sensation of loneliness was still inside of her, but there was somethings that she doubted would ever go away, that being one of them.

Just then, she noticed a figure just out beyond the base of the falls. It looked to be another dragon, but at this time, she couldn't be sure. This was after all, the place of her first run in with the monsters that now infest the land. She was very cautious and started to approach.

After getting just a bit close, Nira could see that it was in fact another dragon, female by the scent. The dragoness appeared to be a dark shade of a color, but what color was difficult to tell. I wouldn't rest out here in the open in this place, Nira told the stranger. As long as the Jorthian remains alive, this place isn't safe. You'd be safer in one of the caves behind the falls.

Deloi sensed a dragon closing in on her. She opened her eyes halfway, and turned her head in the direction of the other dragon. Trough the rain she could only make up the outer lines of the seemingly dark colored, big dragon. The dragon was indeed approaching her, so Deloi instinctively searched for killer intent. When there was none, she lay her back on her front claws, but keeping her eyes open.

I wouldn't rest out here in the open in this place. As long as the Jorthian remains alive, this place isn't safe. You'd be safer in one of the caves behind the falls. The other dragon said to her.

Deloi only snorted in respond. Like she cared about what would happen to her today. She rolled over, her back now facing the other dragon. She just lay there for a few minutes, before noting her mask was off in front of another dragon. Almost immediately, she stood up and faced the other, trying to plaster some sort of grin on her face, but as that failed, she just faked a smile.

Standing up straight and heaving her head, she tried to look proud. Telling herself she could do this, she took a small breath to settle herself. Hello, my name is Deloi. She told the other, making her smile slightly bigger. What's your name?

Pushing herself through the curtain of rainfall that was steadily falling towards the soggy ground beneath her feet, Nira advanced towards the other dragoness. The sand sloshed beneath the bottoms of her feet, her talons forming ridges in the sand as she walked. The dragoness initially only responded to her with a snort, and rolled on her back. Rude much? She thought at first. If this dragoness wanted to await her death out here in the open, then by all means she could go ahead and do so. It's not like she was in an all to caring mood herself.

When she started to get ready to move on her way again, she heard the sounds of the dragoness shifting again. She looked back and saw the dragon starting to stand up in front of her trying to smile. So, she's another like me? She assumed. She didn't know how it was, but she could tell that this dragoness was severely stressed by something. Whether the reasons are similar are polar opposites, Nira knew the face of a struggling dragoness all to well as she had seen that face on herself several times in the reflection in the lake back at home in Kukiron. She heard the dragoness introduce herself as Deloi, and asked for her name in return. She nodded, My name is Niradana, but most of those who know me, call me Nira.

Nira wanted to go on and continue, but this was a dragoness that she hadn't seen before in any of the clans that she had been in, or at least remembered seeing. If she was indeed new to the lands, heck, or even been here when this mess started, then she would know of her name, and the things that she had done in the past, and hopefully as well, the recovery that she has made from the past.

Niradana, huh?, Deloi thought to herself. Where did I hear that name before? As she tried to figure it out, she noticed that she was openly staring at Nira. Quickly shifting her gaze up to Nira's eyes, she said, It's really nice to meet you, Nira. She smiled softly at her.

She was sure she'd heard that name before. Oh! I know! The elders had been talking about her. It had been a beautiful day, so Deloi's attention span wasn't really high. Would she be famous or something? Whenever the elders would tell stories, Deloi wanted to listen, really, she did. But they just talked so slow, and sitting that long was a waste of time.

Deloi decided to just let it slide. If she was famous, she probably wouldn't want a young dragon bugging her about it. Feeling a bit awkward, she shifted her weight a few times, and dug her paws into the soft ground. So..., Deloi started to speak, In what clan are you? I'm from the Furick clan, thought I haven't been there for long. A little less then a year now. And you? She realized she was talking really fast, so she just shut her mouth. Looking up, she smiled a bit apologizing at Nira.

Much to Nira's surprise, there was little reaction to her. Maybe for once, I've run into someone whose heard the good things before everything that happened in my past, or had heard of who I truly am now rather than the monster that I was forced to be. It was a simple thought, but it held massive amount of meaning behind it toward her. She noticed the young dragoness shift her talons in the dirt beneath them. She felt anxious about something, what she didn't know, nor would press. She heard her ask about her clan, which one she was in and telling her a little bit about hers.

I live in the deserts of Kukiron. It's nice to have a break from the dryness out there and feel he drenching rainwater flowing off of us. I just wish the Jorthians weren't hear so that this weather could be enjoyed in peace by those who do so, she told the dragoness named Deloi. I am on a search now though... I have recently lost a mate and a young after only a few months of them being with me... They are okay, I'm presuming. They just left me to be alone, just like I had been the first thirty-five years of my life, she commented. She hated being alone. She began looking around for a safer spot. Let's get into a cave before that thing finds out we're here, I've been hit by it before, trust me, it's an experience that neither of us will survive in a night like this, and I for one don't plan on dying tonight, She said moving towards one of the caves.

Deloi listened to Nira's story. When Nira told about her lost family, Deloi remembered what day it was today, and felt the sadness and loneliness of being alone rise again. She stared at the earth underneath her paws, trying to suppress her feelings again. I hate being alone. She whispered sadly.

When she looked up, Nira was moving towards the caves. She walked quick to catch up with her. They arrived inside the cave, and Deloi blinked to let her eyes adjust to the darkness. Do you have any clue to why your family left you? She asked Nira. If she knows why they'd gone, maybe I can figure out why I was left alone too. She told herself hopefully.

Nira heard the comment from the brown dragoness, that she hated being alone. Nira could relate. She could remember back to how alone she had been for the vast majority of her life. Sure there had been other dragons around her, but there weren't there for here, they were there because of the demon that was living as her. She was always forced inside, living inside an empty shell even in her own body. No one around to let anything out, and every time she tried to break out, she'd get lashed at. I know that feeling all too well... she told Deloi passing through the vale of water that suppressed the cave.

She laid on her stomach letting the water roll down her back and sides. Deloi asked if she knew why her family had left her. Nira could only think of one reason. My past, more than likely. I had thought though, that they were able to see past it for who I am now, and understand that my past was beyond my control... I guess I was wrong... she mentioned slouching her head. At the very least, they were inside now, and protected from the beast that prowls this area. I'm beginning to just think that I'm destined to be alone. I only have a couple friends, and I rarely see them anymore She confessed.

Why do pasts always block others from looking forwards? She asked softly. I really don't understand why adults don't get that what's in the past, is in the past. She'd seen how adults looked at some dragons, with those eyes filled with hate and detest. Like they where infected with some kind of virus that would never go away. And she could feel the hurt flowing off of Nira. It made her angry. She was so nice! Well, not that Deloi really knew her, they'd only been talking for ten minutes or so, but she could feel some sort of connection with the other.

Deloi felt like spilling her life to Nira, but she was unsure of it would interest her. She opened her mouth, but closed it again and sighted. Why is talking so hard? Normally she could rant on forever, but now she just let silence rule.

Getting annoyed with herself for not saying what she wanted, she looked down and opened her mouth once again. I was left alone, too. Her whispering voice was so soft, it was like she hadn't said a thing. Deloi could feel all of the feelings from earlier rise up again, and she hated it. It made her feel helpless, small and hurt.

After slipping into the cave and laying down, Nira made herself more comfortable by allowing her wings to hang freely at her side. The rain was starting to get a bit heavier, and more steady as the night progress, and a shot of lightning scattered across the sky. There's a new development... Nira thought to herself. At least they would be able to see outside the cave now. If anything were to be coming, they would have a chance to see it first. Fortunately though the Jorthian wouldn't be able to fit through the cave opening. It made things easier because they knew they didn't have to worry about that thing.

Nira then listened when the dragoness spoke about others always looking to the past, and allowing it to block their opinions. That's what has occurred in the past is just that in the past. That may be, Nira started. But my past however, is one that has been heavily tainted. I had the misfortune of having a demon take over and possess my body. The outcome was less that desired. Long story short, if the demon still be in possession of me, there would be a high chance, I would have already killed and eaten you by now. She said with disdain. Thank the heavens that I don't have to deal with that anymore, now I just deal with all the pain the situation has caused me. And the pain that it continues to do so, she said sighing. She doubted this dragoness even cared. After she spoke the true nature of her past, Nira would be surprised if she didn't just leave the cave and be on her way. It would be the first time someone walked out on her because of it.

Lighting flashed, and loud thunder followed quickly. Deloi stiffened. She never liked thunderstorms. Rain, yes, but the loud, rolling sound of the exploding thunder always had her shivering. She made herself somewhat smaller, as if to protect her body. Deloi relaxed at Nira's voice, reminding her she was not alone on the stormy night. Smiling slightly, Deloi made a mental note to thank the other dragoness for keeping her company later.

As she listened to Nira's story, Deloi's eyes grew wide with awe. A demon? Images of the kind dragoness tearing others apart flashed before her eyes, and she cringed away from her. Lifting her head to meet the others eyes, Nira spoke of the pain she was now left with. Deloi was now a bit confused, and, though she'd not admit it to the other, a bit scared of Nira. Was she still a demon and lying to eat her later? Or did the demon still lived inside of her, but just not in control anymore? Or did this Nira tell the truth about her horrifying past? All those questions and more ran through Deloi's small skull, but none where voiced, afraid of the answers she might receive.

Deloi glanced over at Nira, eyes gliding over her body, missing no details. She couldn't find anything demonic about her appearance. But how would Deloi know what a demon looked like. It wasn't like she had seen any. And appearance didn't say everything, she'd heard one of the elders say a while ago. And still, her guts told her this dragoness couldn't be demon. She was so kind to Deloi, and opened up to her. Deloi decided. She had thought this over way to long for her likings, and thinking is not the way she normally solves matters she doesn't understand. That's just the bold kind of dragoness she is.

"O- okay, no offense,", she started somewhat uncomfortably, "but I've got to get this off my chest." Turning her head to look Nira in the eye, she continued. "You're not a demon, are you? Because if you're not, then I really like you. But if you are... well, uhm, yeah..." She left the last part unsaid, hoping she wouldn't need to fill it in, ever.

Another loud crack of thunder sounded and reverberated through the cave. This night looked as if it would go on forever, and was one in a way, she didn't want to end to being with, but she needed to find a new family as well. She thought of other options around her. She thought Kodak, Why would he ever dream of me? she thought to herself. He was really the only one she knew though in the clan that was available. She didn't want to press anything for the others, and finally came to the conclusion that she just wasn't meant to have a mate.

The other dragoness though then asked Nira something that was both a shock and yet someone expected. Although it didn't make it hurt any less even though she explained she meant no offense. Nira closed her eyes and looked down before looking to the side. All my life, I lived with that cursed thing and even when it's gone it still ruins my life... she said in a tone of obvious hurt. No, the demoness is no longer inside of me. Another member of the clan was able to remove her from my body. She does still exist though and she is the controller of the monsters that I spoke of. Her name is Luthicia, and she has completely destroyed my life. she said a tear flowing down the side of her face.

She sniffed, Don't get me wrong... I don't mind that you asked... I just wish others would understand that I'm not who I was, and I don't like the things that happened then. I wish others would judge me for who I am now, That's all I ever want... she cried. I'm sorry.... I didn't mean to react this way, It's just every time I think about it I'm reminded of all the pain and hurt that I've caused. It's only fitting that I be dealt it in return...

As Nira told her she was no longer possessed, a small smile spread over Deloi's mouth. She really liked the dragoness lying beside her. She looked over to Nira, and her eyes grew in size when she noticed a glistering tear flow down over Nira's cheek. A need to comfort the other arose, but before she had the change to do so, Nira spoke again.

Hearing Nira speak, Deloi frowned slightly. She didn't like the pain in Nira's voice, nor the hurt expression on her face. All this made her angry. Angry at the demon for ruining Nira's life. Angry at the dragons who couldn't see past their hatred. Angry at herself for asking a question that made Nira react this way. But also angry at Nira, for saying that she had caused pain and suffering instead of saying it was the demon's doing. And Deloi was never one to keep feelings inside.

"Don't say it like that!" She snapped at Nira. Slightly shocked by the sharpness of her voice, she continued with a softer tone. "Like you said yourself, you where possessed. It was not your doing. So please, don't say you deserve to suffer for it." Deloi smiled brightly, showing she really meant what she said.

Whether or not it was my doing makes no difference. Granted I wasn't in control of this body when it happened, but it was still this body that was present... she told her trying to someway take responsibility. Ultimately she gave in. I guess your right, I should have been stronger though, that way the demon could have never gotten into me to being with. I blame my father for that, even after all these years, and after I've had my revenge, I still can't forgive him for stealing my mother from me. I if I could I'd kill him mercilessly every time I ever encountered him... she spoke.

Her attitude towards her father was the same as it was towards Luthicia. She hated them both with an utter passion. Her father though, couldn't hurt anyone anymore. Luthicia on the other hand, was still hurting everyone by hurting the land. In a way, she felt responsible for it. She was in a way, If she had just been killed, this wouldn't have happened the demon would have died with her. But no, the demon was removed from her. Why though? What more could she have to possibly live for? She lost everything that had ever come to her. Then she remembered two key faces in her mind, Cobra and Silvera. Those two dragons she knew would be deeply hurt if anything happened to her. Both were excellent friends and she had figured that Sil had laid her eggs by now. She also knew that Cobra should be getting close.

She cleared her thoughts and looked over towards Deloi. Her coloring almost making her blend with the wall. It's late, and it doesn't look like this storm is going to relent any time soon. Might as well get some rest. There should be another padded bed over there, though I'm not sure the condition of the moss that I made it from in. I used to live in this very cave you know. she told her.
