Chapter One The Birth 17 Years Ago “My lord, an elven child has indeed been born with the Touch, as the prophecy had foretold” Rac’nr said in a deep, raspy voice, to Maeirc, leader of the Awaneth dragons, as he came rushing into the meeting chamber. Rac’nr was a male dragon with pitch black scales that looked like the night sky and black eyes. He was also second in command. “So it has” Maeirc whispered. “Her dragons egg was also laid the same day the child was born.” The massive dragon turned around, his beautiful sapphire scales glistened as they were hit by the sunlight coming in from a window in the chamber. His bright blue eyes looked at his second in command. “If that is so, then it must be protected at all costs. Many enemies will have heard of this and they would want the child and the dragon.” Maeirc looked at Rac’nr and Rac’nr nodded his head, knowing what must be done. “I will take twenty of my best warriors and five of their riders to retrieve the egg and bring it back here” he said. “Yes” Maeirc said “the egg is not safe anywhere, not even with the elves during times like these and the human child would have to be hidden. Leave as soon as you gather your warriors. You are dismissed.” Rac’nr bowed his black head “Yes my lord” and he was gone. A thousand years has passed since the last Touched rider was born Maeirc thought. Even then, it was still dangerous for the Touched to be around others. Most of them went to live in secrecy with the elves. Maeirc heard a sound coming from the doorway and turned to see his daughter, Awen, standing there. “Is it true, father, that a Touched rider has been born?” her voice a pure chime. Her scales were pure white, as white as the snow in Awaneth. She had spikes around her jaw and running from the back of her head to the tip of her tail and they were a copper color. As for her eyes, they were green, which was odd, for a dragons eyes were always the color of their scales or spikes. She apparently had worry in them. “Yes, it is true” her father answered. “And the egg?” she asked. “I’ve sent Rac’nr with twenty warriors and five riders to retrieve it and bring it back here.” He stated. “But what about the child?!” Awen asked, her voice a litter louder than she intended it to be. “The child is just as important as their companions.” “I know that Awen.” Maeirc said after listening. “I think Rac’nr knows that as well as anyone. He will find a way to keep the child hidden, as I instructed him to do before he left.” Awen bowed her head, ashamed that she didn’t think her father knew what he was doing. “I’m sorry father, I…..I was just jumping to conclusions. I was just so worried that the child would be found and……” “I understand.” Maeirc interrupted. “I know how important that child is. She is the one who is supposed to end the great war to come.” They stood in silence for several minutes then Giern, Rac’nrs’ twin brother, came into the room. He was covered with deep blood, red scales and he had bright red eyes. Where his grey spikes were supposed to be on his back from the base of his neck just to the tip of were his wings rested were gone. They were cut off during battle between the humans. He had on silver armor, which represented his rank among the army and community. “Lord Maeirc, Rac’nr has just returned with the egg but he is not alone.” Giern said in a pure, low voice. “Some of the dragons of Drallim have accompanied him back to protect the egg.” Awen smiled at her father. “Then let us go meet our guests” Maeirc laughed joyously. The three dragons left the meeting chamber and went to the entrance of Awaneth. The city was carved from hard marble in the Nexus mountains that was impossible to destroy or scratch. Reaching the entrance, Maeirc saw at least thirty dragons flying toward the city. Twenty of those he knew were his own, but the other ten were not. Rac’nr landed before the entrance gates and walked slowly to his lord. An egg was in a leather pouch, secured by leather strips around Rac‘nrs chest. The egg was a bright shade of green with gold veins. “Is this the egg?” Maeirc asked. “Yes, my lord.” Rac’nr replied. “Have the egg put into the hatchery at once!” Maeirc said, his voice booming. An elf dressed in a white tunic, one of the few in the city, came and carefully removed the egg from Rac’nr’s back and took it to the cities hatchery followed by two tan, medium sized brown dragons. Rac’nr walked over to Maeirc’s side to face the new dragons that were just now landing at the gates. “Welcome!” Maeirc said, his voice loud. “Thank you” said a dragon that appeared to be the leader of the group of dragons from Drallim. His scales were a dull bronze and his spikes were as black as onyx. His eyes were a hard topaz and the armor he wore was silver, like Giern’s. Bowing his head he said “My name is Chaspin, Lord Maeirc” is voice deep, and proud. He was a young dragon, about Awens age. He lifted his head to look at Maeirc “My Lady has sent me and my warriors to protect the egg of the child.” “And you are all the welcome to stay and do just that.” Maeirc commented. “Thank you” Chaspin responded, smiling. “You and your group look hungry” Awen said, coming forward. “Father, we should have a feast for the eggs safe trip back.” Maeirc nodded his massive head. “That is a great idea Awen. We should honor our guests for coming a great distance to protect the future.” Maeirc crouched and jumped, flapping his enormous wings and flew to the highest roost in the middle of the city. Everybody, even the elves, watched and waited for their leader to speak. “City of Awaneth!” his voice echoed through the city “Today the egg of the rider born with the Touch was brought to the city so that it would be protected.” The crowd started to murmur. “A group of dragons from Drallim have also came here to help protect the egg,” he continued “So, to honor those dragons and those of this city who risked their lives for the sake of the future we will have a celebration feast!” he finished loud. The city burst with cheers. “The feast will take place in the Garden of Serelli.” He dove from the roost and landed back at the city gates. He looked at the group of dragons and said “You must be tired from a long journey.” “Yes, I think we all are” Chaspin said, looking at his group. “Could we rest a while before the feast? To us, it would be considerably rude to fall asleep during a feast.” he laughed. “Well then,” Maeirc said “Awen, can you show them where they can roost during their stay?” “Yes father.” she answered. “Follow me please.” Awen said to the group of dragons. “See you at the feast.” Maeirc said as the dragons left and started walking to his own roost to rest as well before the feast. Meanwhile, Awen took the group of dragons to a big building that was at least two hundred feet tall. “Awaneth is as they say” commented Chaspin. Awen looked back at him with a question on her face. He laughed. “Many say that Awaneth is the biggest city in Celseir. With all its tall buildings and such.” Awen nodded her head. “That’s why there are so many of us here.” They kept walking for another ten minutes. They passed roosts containing dragon families and houses for the elves and their families that lived there. They were all made of the same hard marble the rest of the city was but it was detailed with black onyx, rimmed with gold. The detail was an intricate design of mostly flowers and vines. “It looks like the city is well taken care of” Chaspin said, astonished “most dragon cities don’t take care of the elves and human homes.” “We all help to take care of one another” Awen replied “Awaneth is such a beautiful city, it would be such a waste to let it get to such atrocious states.” Chaspin only nodded in agreement. They finally reached a large roost that looked like the others. It ws big enough to be a hacthery. In most dragon cities, the hatcheries are one of the biggest buildings besides the palace. "Thank you for showing us were we stay" Chaspin said. "Your welcome" Awen replied, smiling. "The feast will take place in a few hours. I will send someone to lead you to the garden when it is time." "Okay. Good night My Lady" he said, bowing his head slightly and went into the roost. Awen became flustered. My Lady? she thought. No one has ever called her that. It was always Princess this and Princess that. "Is there something wrong?" someone asked. Caught up in her own thoughts, she didn't hear them approach. She jumped in surprise and almost fell over. The person laughed. Her laugh was like a melody. Awen turned around and saw an elf standing there. She has never saw this elf in the city before. She wore a black tunic and she had platinum blonde hair. Her eyes were a dark green. Like all elves, she was very slim. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have laughed." "That's alright, I shouldn't have let my guard down" she replied. "My name is Seilen, by the way" she introduced, bowing. "It's nice to meet you Seilen." "So...." she started. "Call me Awen." "So Awen, what are you doing all the way down here?" Seilen asked. "I was showing our guests were they will roost during their stay." "That was nice of you. It seems that Chaspin likes you a lot." "How do you know Chaspin?" Awen asked, cocking her head. "Well, I know him because I am his companion" she replied. Awen was shocked. "I didn't see you when they arrived." "That is because I left a little while after they did. I didn't want to be a burden, since they were in such a hurry to leave with the egg. So I ran here instead." Unlike humans, elves had as much stamina as a dragon, so they could run for hours, and they were much faster that humans. "You must be tired from that long journey, not to mention hungry" Awen said, a little worried. "I am a little of both, but I'll manage." she said. "Well, it was nice to meet you Awen, but if you don't mind, I would like to get some rest before the feast." "Not at all" she replied and she watched the elf walk into the roost. Awen then started to walk back to the palace. She didn't run into anyone again. She finally returned to the palaces' entrance. The palace was Awaneths pride and joy. It too was made of marble and had gold details sketched in it, but it was the only building to have rare and valubale gemstones in it. It had sapphires, emeralds, rubies, diamonds, purple amythests and onyx. Some say that dragons magic comes from stones, and a city without them is helpless. She started up the steps when the massive doors opened. There stood Vala, Awens companion. She too was an elf. Her pitch black hair looked blue, her pale complexion contrast to her black hair. She had dark blue eyes and her face wore an angry expression. "Were were you?" she asked. Her voice was not raised but is still had the anger in it. Awen started but Vala cut her off. "I thought you knew that we were coming back! I even told you." Awen knew what she said was true. Dragons and their companions could send each other messages through their thoughts. Apparently, Awen had forgotten it when the news reached her ears about the egg. When Vala calmed down, Awen saw an opportunity to explain herself. "Forgive me Vala, I have had a lot on my mind since you left" she said softly. A few of the palaces' dragons companions had to leave for thier elven capital for an important meetin. They had only returned this evening. Edited by Valamuraka, Dec 16 2009, 05:41 PM.

I like the story so far. I think a name such as 'Touch of a Human' or something of the sort would sound nice. |
