Very pretty country, Valeras mused. Very... green. He had found himself soaring above a large, rolling plain a half hour before. There were a few dragons within sight, but they were barely larger than specks, and Valeras doubted that he had been seen at all. He knew that he should keep moving, continue traveling at the distance-gobbling pace that had become his stock in trade in the past few years. He knew that he could not stay, and yet... there was something about this place. Flying high above this sea of emerald, he found a sense of peace, of solitude, that he had never experienced before, especially with other dragons around. It was as if the land itself were calling to him, beckoning to him, pleading with him to stay and rest for a time... Valeras started as he realized what he had been thinking. Stop and rest? Idiot, you know how well that's worked the last few times you tried it. Once or twice Valeras had found a place where he had been sure he would be safe. An isolated mountaintop, a dense forest, a desert cave... somewhere that he was sure his pursuers could not find him. Every time, within two days of settling in, he was forced to fight for his life and again continue his flight from those who would slay him simply because he was, and still is, the son of Encor. After recovering from the initial shock of the idea, Valeras began to seriously consider making this land into his last stand. It seemed that the Draconarae pursuing him would find him wherever he went, and eventually he would indeed have to stop from sheer exhaustion. This was a good place, a defensible place. The dragons chasing him had no place to stealthily approach from, all around was nothing but blue sky and green grass. He could see them coming possibly as much as an hour in advance, if he kept a diligent watch. There were also other dragons nearby, who (assuming they were not allied with the rogue Draconarae) could possibly come to his aid, or at least stop the fight. Valeras thought long and hard about the issue, and could see no real disadvantages to making his stand. And if things turned out for the best, and the local populace allowed him to... Valeras grinned involuntarily. I might finally be able to call someplace 'home' again. A triumphant roar burst from his throat, echoing across the plains. He folded his wings against his flanks and dove down towards the ground below. As he neared the earth he spread his wings, allowing the membranous canopy to fill with air as he turned his dive into a slow glide to the grass below. He didn't know what he would do once he landed... neither did he care. It simply felt good to be home again, even if it wasn't actually home yet. |

A endless horizon of blue is what filled the sky about over the plains. There wasn't even a passing cloud that would block the golden aura of the sun if even only for a seconds at all. The grasses of the plains were swaying freely withing the clan gentle breeze that blew occasionally across the grass causing a silver sheen to roll across the plain from the light of the sun. Zil'caron used the breeze to guide himself to the center of the plains. He was on a long hunt because he wanted something a little bit different than what was around Juthivar. Even if it was something the same it would be in a different region so it would have it's own distinct flavor rather than the hickory and apple flavors that would be found in the blood of most of the deer in the area by eating the bark of it's respective tree. He picked up the scent of something in the distance and adjusted the angle of his wing so that the winds would guide him in it's direction. He thrusted them downward a couple times to maintain altitude. As he adjusted he noticed a group of wildebeest not to far ahead. That's something different. Don't see too many of them back home, he thought to himself. He waited until he was right over them and then used the grasses around them to entangle two of them by their hooves and he dove. As the rest of the herd bolted from the area, the two that he had restrained remained unable to do anything. There was a slight shock-wave that went through the ground as he came into contact with the two animals. He wrapped his jaws around the one on his left and clenching tightly allowing it's blood to flow into his mouth careful to avoid his maw being punctured by the beasts horns. It didn't take long for the beast to go into paralysis and fade into the void as his fangs had rupture to what he could feel at least a couple arteries. He broke off the horns with his talons and began consuming his meal repeating the process with the other wildebeest as well. Once he finished, he noticed that the directions of the winds had shifted. Then were now blowing away from the direction of the sun and to his back rather than towards the sun like it had been earlier. With this change in wind direction came in a change in scent. He picked up that there was another dragon in the region, and he was unsure of whether it was friendly or not. He looked over towards the volcano that was to the west of them, and it seemed to be dormant. Just as it was when he and the others tried to approach it on that day where him and Aries both nearly died. He shuddered and started slowly in the direction of the scent weary of what he could find. As the scent got stronger, he knew he was heading in the right direction, and soon he was able to spot the dragon that he had been tracking. It was a blue male. His scales lacked any kind of brilliance as it appeared, but he could distinctly make out more than one shade of blue being present on the body. With that he approached cautiously. You look a bit winded, Zil'caron acknowledged as he walked up next to him. Long flight? he asked. By comparison, this dragon was much larger than he was, almost a good six feet taller. He had to pick himself carefully not to be put in a situation that he could become disadvantaged should this dagon turn out to be violent. |

Valeras, having finished his brief rest, was almost ready to begin exploring the new land he had found himself in when the breeze changed direction, shifting to blow at his back instead of at his face as it had been. Valeras immediately tensed, ready to move in any direction at a moment's notice. The breeze didn't bother him, it had changed several times already in the past hour or so. What did bother him was the scent that it brought, and the knowledge that another dragon had been able to approach without his knowledge. He quickly evaluated his options. He could turn quickly, but this might be interpreted as an act of aggression, and he was in no mood for a fight right now. He could turn slowly and cautiosly, but if the other dragon did decide to attack, his center of gravity would not be as centered as it should be, and would put him at a disadvantage at the very beginning of the fight. He could flee, but he was still a bit sore from his flight, and knew the other dragon could most likely catch up to him if he wanted to. Or... he could simply do nothing, and be ready for anything. As it turned out, all of his premeditation had been for naught. A black dragon noticeably smaller than Valeras approached from is right side. He appeared to be making an effort to be unobtrusive, but he also exerted an air of confidence, as one who is not looking for trouble, but can handle it if trouble finds him. You look a bit winded, he said. The words sounded almost foreign to Valeras, not because of a peculiar accent or dialect, but simply because it had been so long since he had heard another being speak. Long flight? Fairly long, Valeras replied, turning his head to get a better look at the dragon. He was indeed a bit shorter than Valeras, at least a good 4 feet. His scales were a glossy black, with a faint golden outline around each one. Long enough to carry me far beyond the lands I have any familiarity with. What place is this? OOC: I apologize for not posting promptly, finals took up all of my available time and then some. xP |

Zil'caron watched as the other dragon turned around as he had started to approach it and he stalled for a moment. He wanted to make sure that he wasn't going to act aggressively. Instead the dragon took the greeting that he was given one in return. The dragons mentioned that the flight that he had been in was long enough to fly beyond any of the lands that he had been familiar with. He knew what that was like. It wasn't all that long ago that he was new here himself, but it sure felt like a lot longer. When the other dragon asked what this place was, Zil'caron gave him the truth of the matter. This plain in particular, hell on earth. Has been since that volcano sprouted there. It was here when I came to this land little over a hear or so ago, but from what I've heard, this used to be a peaceful tranquil place, he told the dragon. He moved a little closer to him but still kept a safe distance, and made himself more comfortable. The name is Zil'caron. I'm a mage from the Juthivar clan from the southern region of this island continent. If you go back to the north through the desert is the Desert of the Kukiron clan, and the Furick clan is in the mountains to the east. There is a glacier cap to the south of the island, and numerous other areas here. The unfortunate thing is, is that you happened to pick the most dangerous land right now to take a break in. Living in that volcano is a beast that is about twice the size of one of my friends, who is easily twice the size of me. It looks like one of us, but has four wings and is completely black. It hunts dragons as prey, and from what I've heard it plays a role is bringing an end to something. From what I've heard, this thing had been summoned by an arch demon that is set out revenge for my friend. I won't go into much details of that out of her privacy, but I do know that the beast is dangerous and highly venomous... he said looking back at the other dragon. Considering he was new to this land, he probably wasn't all to encouraged by the fact that there was something here that could kill them with ease. On the bright side though, other than that beast, this continent is only populated by other dragons and has bountiful prey in most regions, he added as a bit of a perk. |
