The water was calm. Nothing broke its surface, for the creature that had disappeared into it had stayed in for quite a while. The red eastern stayed curled up in a small bubble of air about thirty feet under. The water shifted suddenly around her, and she opened one eye sleepily to see a large fish dart past the bubble. Her eyes snapping wide open, she quickly pushed herself out of the bubble and chased after the fish. She gave her tail one final snap to propel herself forward, and she caught the unfortunate fish in her jaws. Using her water magic, she created a fast current that shot her to the surface. She caught her breath quickly, then swam to the shore. She crawled up on a large rock that hung over the shore of the lake and stretched out, then put the fish down on the rock and ate it. Once she had reduced the fish to nothing but a skeleton, she was about to curl up and fall asleep when she thought she smelled another dragon. Fear gripped her, and she quickly leaped into the water and swam under the safety of the overhang on the rock, hoping that whoever it was wouldn't see her.

Life was a game of chess. Make on wrong move and the whole thing was screwed on your end. You had to be smart to fix the mistake, to make the right move, to solve the problem, or hide the move of ignorance before the oppenant caught it. Of course, not all could see, some were blind. Blind to the world around them, in a bubble almost. For some though, that was about to end. And for Azerbeyne...
It had only just begun.... This game of chess.
A Rude awakening.

Her wings snapped open from her sides and she pulled them back in, openeing them again as she proppeled herself forward in the air. Her lambent green eyes protraying the calmness of her mind. She let her long tail swipe across the air, cutting it like butter. She arched her neck, looking below, her eyes catching something on the ground. She bared her teeth, seeing it flee, leaping into the water, creating a loud spash and then saw it swim under an overhanging rock. She snarled, her eyes flooded with red and she twisted her wing joints in the sockets, having them veritical to the ground now, she hovered. Baring her teeth, the fleshy upper lip rising over gums.

She shook her horned head, watching below, a smile creeping, a game of hide and seek, or was it cat and mouse? It was both, really, one thing hides, the other finds, the mouse hides... the cat seeks. She snarled, twisting and diving, wings shut close to her body, the black scales catching the light. she snarled, opening her wings and landing on the ledge, claws clutching onto the rough surfac of the rock, she felt its grooves and remembered a memory of so long ago..
Being one with the world around you... Is the greatest acheivement.

But the world was lost to her, this place was alien. she was the outsider, something looking through the looking glass. She bared her teeth, shaking her head from side to side and redirected her thoughts to the Creature whom hid from her, she cracked her jaws open and snarled, arching her neck, her leg joints bending to a crouch she expanded her jaws to their full length and a scream ruptured her throat, the loud hiss of air and fire exploded from her jaws, a brillant blue that washed over the surface of the water. Steam rose from the strike of water and fire and she shut her jaws with a loud crack! The fire gone. She stood up and waited...

The red eastern winced as the dragon who had seen her let out a scream, and steam erupted from where their fire hit the water's surface. Sarine's eyes narrowed. Fine, then. I will come. she thought.
She swam out from under the rock and lifted effortlessly into the air with her wind magic, coming face to face with the dragon that had found her. A dragoness. A black one that seemed extremely annoyed at how she had hid.
Sarine touched lightly down upon the very edge of the rock, not coming too close to the black dragoness. Her purple eyes began to take on a green hue—a sign that she was a little annoyed with this dragoness. Her red, black-patterned tail sliced through the air behind her, and she eyed the dragoness warily before she spoke.
What do you want? She asked, her voice soft and barely audible, as it had always been since that horrible day when she was tricked by who she had thought was an ally.

Azerbeyne bared her teeth, looking Sarine over, it was good to know the opponent. The voices spoke and she heard, telling her to be catious and watch herself, she heeded the words. Arching her neck she stood at her full height, wings tucked into her sides she tilted her head to the side and a sinister smile came to her eyes, the lambent glow of her blood red eyes died away and took the glossy hue. She lashed her tail from side to side, the spikes cutting through the air, What I want?

She narrowed her eyes and the smile faded, What I want is something I will never have again. They took him from me... No... she took him. Either way, he's dead and we cannot bring back the dead... Now can we? But what James dead? Was he truly gone? It always stayed a thought to her, what if he was alive... What if he had been taken to Valekava and saved? It didn't matter now, she would not find out. Not while being her. Her tail lashed and she arched her neck, eyes locked onto Sarine's.

Sarine looked up at the black dragoness, baring her sharp teeth as the dragoness did the same and smiled. She then replied that what she wanted was something that she would never have again, and said something about someone dead. Sarine's eyes flashed from purple to green in several instances, flickering like dying lights. But the black dragoness's last words shook the red eastern. “We cannot bring back the dead... Now can we?”
Immediately, her eyes stopped flickering, and grew to a saddened indigo color. No... We can not. We can never bring back those we love, we can never fix anything we have done... There is no way once you have done it. She replied, looking up into the dragoness's eyes, hers filled with pain and sadness.
No way to bring back those that have died from our mistakes. Her eyes watered for a second. Not even those that had been innocent and helpless, the ones that suffer the most.

Azerbeyne jerked from the memories, she'd seen him die, in the care of Sangyne, now? Now she was alone. Her rider dead, and she left to suffer from old wounds. She looked to Sarine and nodded, hostility hidden but alive all the same. She shook her head, the spikes on her neck and the sides of her throat shaking with the motion. she looked at Sarine, tilting her head slightly to the side, the red of her eyes changed back to green where they faltered for a second between blue and green, then settled with the Acidic green.

I don't think I've properly introduced myself... My name is Azerbeyne... Your's? A simple curious statement, she had more in plan for her own works, but at this time, she could halt what she had been doing. It was't much important anyway.

Sarine watched her suspiciously as the black dragoness looked at her, then shook her head, her eyes flashing like her own before introducing herself as Azerbeyne, also asking for her own name.
My name... is Sarine. Sarine answered at barely more than a whisper. She sat down on her haunches so that she was at eye level with Azerbeyne, her tail curling tightly around her.
You... don't seem like you're around here, but you might be... Do you know of any groups of dragons here? I see dragons here occasionally, but I do not greet them, for my homeland was riddled with rogues who stole my food and... killed my whole family, and I do not want to take the chance that all rogues are like that here as well. You're... different, though. You lured me out, and you did not attack. I hope the other dragons here are friendlier, like you. she replied, her tail twitching slightly.

A dangerous smile crossed Azerbeyne's jaws and her eyes flooded a cold ice blue... I wouldn't be so fast to judge one, it might be the very last thing you do. Her tail lashed and hit the ground wih blunt force, she jerked her head up, I don't anything here, 'Cept for you now, but otherwise no, I'm lost as it is. Been as such for a while, but you learn to live with it.

As for me being friendly... I am far from it. I am simply careful of my actions. One slip, and its over. I don't play the game as others may play it... I play a more complicated version of chess than you could ever imagine.

(Sorry for the tiny post, I'm kinda feeling out of it XD)

Sarine snorted as Azerbeyne told her that she shouldn't be fast to judge others, and that she was far from friendly. So be it. she replied, her eyes flicking dangerously to green and back again. I was merely making an observation about my first impression of you... not what I think of you as a whole.
See this?
Sarine asked, lifting her head vertically, revealing the underside of her neck, two deep scars gouged deep into the skin, criscrossing across her throat. This is what happened when I was fast to judge others. And it might have been the last thing I had done, if not for my father. That's why I'm forced to never speak like I did before. she told Azerbeyne.

Azerbeyne felt the growl rise in her throat, but she kept it down. Arching her neck, her dangerous tail lashing from side to side, she nodded, knowing the judgement game, it was a vile ruthless, and uncanny. Shaking her head from side to side, her wings closed tight to her sides as she felt the wind brush over her dark scales, she spoke. Life is like Chess. Some of us get the bad end of the deal, I however congradulate you in your change. Some are not as fortunate to adapt to the world.

Walking a few steps forward, her eyes bright ice blue as she walking into the sunlight, the light danced off her scales. She lifted her head from its arch and shook her head and neck, the spikes moving with her spine, she locked her eyes onto Sarine and let the sunlight wash over her body. The deep scars in her entire body darker with the shadows she spoke, I know some if not more of your pain...

A bitter smile crept slowly across Sarine's red-scaled face as Azerbeyne said that some people get the bad end of the deal, but she congratulated her on how she adapted to the world. So I seemed to get the good end? she asked, her tail skirting across the ground, gouging deep marks into it. Ever since I was born, no one had the good end. Everyone was unhappy and starving. And how have I adapted at all? I merely hid behind my father as he killed off the rogue who had nearly killed me. Then I ran in cowardice. You could say that was adapting; however, I recognize that it was the biggest mistake of my life. I shall not hide behind my family and friends any more; after all, I left my homeland turning my back on the dark forms of their slain bodies. So I shall fight till I die. she replied simply. She listened to what Azerbeyne said about that she knew some if not more of her pain. She dragged her claws lazily across the ground. So what has happened to you? How do you think we both are the same? she said softly, looking into Azerbeyne's eyes, her own full of her bitter memories of her past.

Adapting, you are still alive, are you not? Azerbeyne's tail curled around her forlegs and she tightened her muscles, she looked at Sarine, I was abused by the fetid creatures known as 'Humans'. I watched my Father kill my mother, with no one but him to go to. I watched him die by the hand of another Dragon, and I was turned into the monster of a world unknown. I was treated like a pathetic animal who's only means of survival.. Was to fight. And then..

I lost Him.
She couldn't say his name, it was too much of a toll on her. She pulled back slightly, closing in on herself. It hurt to much... She arched her neck, he had been her life and soul. He had been there when even his Brother had disagreed to it. He had fought alongside her.. and now he was gone.
