Ryka opened her eyes. The sun had set hours ago and the sky was filled with stars, though some were hidden by rainclouds. She had been trying to sleep for a while now. Giving in to her insomnia, Ryka stood and walked to the edge of her den. It was about midway up the tree, giving her a breathtaking view of the darkened forest. She spread her wings and let herself fall from the edge. She angled her wings, and her fall shifted smoothly into a glide. Ryka headed for the lake. If she was going to be awake, she didn't want to risk waking too many people. That, and the water would be nice to swim in.

Once she was over the lake, roughly in the center, she pulled her wings to her sides and plunged beneath the black waters of the lake. The cold water rushed over Ryka's scales and cleared her mind, making her eyes snap open. She hung there, enjoying the weightlessness until her lungs ached for air. She pulled herself to the surface and looked at the sky high above. It was a new moon, so the very dim light came only from the stars. Ryka sighed once, long and drawn out, before swimming to the shore.

She sat on the edge of the lake, the water sliding down her scales. The clouds above were more noticeable, even in the dark of night. A drop of rain fell from the sky, followed by another and another, until a light rain was falling. Ryka smiled to the clouds. She loved rain, the scent, the sound, the feeling of it. It made her feel renewed.

Inferno was awoken by the sound of wings. He yawned as he walked forward from the tree. He looked on, seeing what looked like a dragon fly out? This time of the night? He sniffed the air, Ah, it's a female. He said to himself, before spreading forth his massive wings and took off silentl after it. He sat there, flying just above as she swam in the lake. She was beautiful to say the least, or was it her hormones making it seem so? He shook the thought out of his head as he gently and quietly landed just a few feet from her.

He sighed gently. Do you want privacy? If so, I can leave. Was all he said to her as he awaited her answer. He sniffed the air, her scent was like a dragon breathing fire on him. He looked at her as he sat down a few feet from her. I guess I should introduce myself. I'm Inferno, called Inferno the Merciless a long, long time ago. Who might you be? The red Wyvern asked as he awaited her answer.

Ryka turned at the sound of wingbeats a few feet away from her. A male wyvern, judging by his scent and silhouette. His chest scales were paler than the rest of his scales, but Ryka couldn't make out their color. There was a crown-like frill atop his head that glowed, giving off just enough of it's own internal light to show it's colors. It reminded her almost like a flame. She knew he either had restraint, limited smell, or a mate, for most males wouldn't land that close to a female in heat without nearly losing their sanity, even with the rain helping to slightly dampen the scent. It was too dark to accurately read his body language, so she didn't know which one it might be. She heard him sigh and ask if she wanted privacy. She smiled at him before answering. No, no, I don't mind company. She heard him shift his weight and noticed him sit beside her before introducing himself as Inferno. She nodded and gave a half smile before replying. I'm Rykasha, Ryka for short. Nice to meet you.

Inferno looked down to her, his 'crown' shining brightly in the moonlight, allowing him to see her. The red Wyvern looked at her, she was indeed beautiful as Inferno has thought so. Her dark blue scales gleaming in the moonlight. He looked back up, meeting her eyes with his as he heard her give her name. Rykasha, or Ryka for short. she had said. He smiled, his massive fangs coming faintly into view from the light his 'crown' was giving off. He looked at her, seemingly lost in her beautiful eyes as he finally spoke. The pleasures all mine Ryka. Lovely night isn't it, might I ask what your doing way out here all by yourself? He finally managed, turning from her eyes as he awaited her answer. He looked out into the water, breathing some white hot fire over the top, causing it to bubble as it quickly became like a jacuzzi. He looked back at Ryka, awaiting her answer.

Ryka didn't have to look at his eyes to know that he was looking at her. She met his gaze with her own, a pause filling the air. His eyes were a starling combination of blue and a pale orange color and seemed to catch her own eyes. She pulled her gaze away when he began to speak, saying the pleasure was his. He asked her what she was doing by herself, and she smiled again. I'm not alone anymore, remember? I came out here since I couldn't sleep. Did I wake you as I left? She watched him breath fire over the water, briefly illuminating the area. She had to keep from gasping in awe at his appearance. The coloring of his scales made it clear why his name was Inferno. It looked as if he was a living blaze, proud and grand in all it's destructive glory. She quickly flicked her eyes away and back down to the water, now bubbling with heat. She did hope that he hadn't noticed her staring at him.

Inferno smiled almost when he caught Ryka starting at him. He had to fight back the urge to laugh a little at this as he finished what he was doing. So it seems your not anymore. No, I was already up, and when I heard you take off I had to follow to see what a dragon such as yourself was doing. Inferno snorted a little, firing flaring from his nostrils as he did, now he was showing off more or less. He had caught her as well, a beautiful dark blue, he had to fight that urge to just tell that to her, although he had given it away when he spoke to her as he had. Ryka? he asked as he looked up, a look of sadness in his eyes. He had hoped to find a mate out of this female, but sadly, it seemed she was not the one for him. He turned his head back down, giving out a sigh, albiet louder than he wanted it to be.

Inferno looked back up, his eyes gleaming with pride as the red dragons were a proud species, even when they sad, mad, happy or dying, that pride never left their eyes. His father had taught him that. He locked eyes with Ryka, his eyes gleaming as he looked her over again, his glowing "crown" letting her see just his head. If she looked at his face, she could clearly see the spikes forming a "beard" on his chin. He was a stunning sight to see indeed.

Ryka had heard something in his tone change when he answered her, a very small change, but she knew what it was, or at least, had a good idea of what it was. He snorted, sending curls of fire from his nostrils before saying her name, like he wanted to ask her a question. The shift in his tone was the same as before, only much stronger. Regret, apology, and the pride that never left his being. She turned towards him and smiled. I know. I'm not the One, like you were hoping. But please, let me know when you find her. I'm sure she'll be perfect for you. Her eyes locked with his, and she knew that in her eyes, regardless of how understanding she sounded, deep down, there was a tiny glimmer of her own regret. But she buried it, deep down in her mind. Inferno, you are the Delta, right? Well, once you find your match, I'd like to meet her. She might like to have the matching position to yours. Ryka looked at the sky, the light rain slowing while a slight mist began to form.

Inferno looked back up after having let his head turn away to the mist covering the lake infront of them. He smiled a little at this sight, the lake was beautiful, almost as beautiful as the blue dragon next to him. He looked back up, feeling this getting repetive until finally, she spoke, locking eyes with him as she did. She said she wasn't the one I was hoping, and to let her now when I find her. He nodded as his eyes continued staying on hers. He saw something else in there as well, what looked like sadness as she said it. He smiled, I know Ryka, I know. I'll be sure to let you know when I find her, just as you asked. Inferno said.

He looked back up as she spoke yet again. The red Wyvern answered her question, Yes, I am. She might like that Ryka, Thank you. He said told to her, spreading his wings as he gave her a small hug, almost losing control as he did. He luckily had plenty of it, capable of keeping control in just about the worst of situations, but not even he could restain him for too long a time. He let go after a few seconds, Thank you Ryka, perhaps we can have more talks like this in the future. He stood up on his hind legs, making him even taller than he already was, making him tower over at nearly 45 foot tall. He looked down, May I escort you back to the tree? He asked.

Ryka heard him thank her and felt him wrap his wings around her in an almost hug. The gesture reminded her of her brother Auroro. It was probably a good thing that they weren't for each other then; she wouldn't be able to be around him without remembering. He pulled away and thanked her a second time and asked if maybe they could have more talks like this in the future. She nodded. Whenever you need a friend to talk to, you can come find me. She watched him rise on his hind legs, towering over her. He asked if he could escort her back. Ryka smiled mischievously. Well, you could do that if you want.... But wouldn't a race be so much more fun? Without waiting for his reply, she began running and jumped, her wings catching her in the air. She hovered for a moment in midair, giggling and waiting for Inferno to take off. If there was any racing, she wanted to be sure that they had even chances.

Inferno smiled when she said that when he needed a friend to talk to, he could go find her. His smile vanished soon however as she spoke, but the smile returned as she said a race would be better. He moved out the way as she ran past him, jumping into the air. She ran with such beauty he thought to himself as he beat his wings, slowly but surely taking off into the air. He chuckled a little as she giggled. The red Wyvern came up beside her, Hmm, it seems you underestimate me Ryka, I am quite fast for my size, even though it may not look like it. Inferno kept smiling, before, without warning, shooting off like a rocket past her, heading for the Tree of Life with the lovely blue dragoness behind him. You should never underestimate anyone Ryka, no matter how big or small, that is why you will lose this race. He laughed back to her before turning his head back around.

Ryka watched him take to the air and turned herself about in the air. He said something about not underestimating him, despite his size before rocketing past. Ryka kept her head as she flew, gaining speed until she was on his tail. She caught the last bit of something about her losing, and she smiled. Don't underestimate me either! She pushed her wings faster, like she was trying to outfly the Jorthian again. She imagined it behind her, letting the adrenaline flow through her veins. Her muscles ached, but she pushed them further. She wasn't going to lose if she could help it, and if she did lose, it would be by all that much. She tried to angle herself slightly upward so she could dive later and pick up more speed.

Inferno laughed at her, Very well then! He roared back, the playfulness gone. He dropped straight down, shooting infront of her as he did so. He had pulled up above her so she got to see his muscled underside fly inches infront of her as he dropped straight down before straightening back up. He angled himself up very slightly so that he would gradually go back up and yet not lose any of his speed.

The red Wyvern beat his wings faster than he normally would, almost shooting up at that angle. He finally managed to get back where he was, his massive wings allowing him to slowly pull away from Ryka as he roared back to her, I told you so! He laughed a little before he was soon going as fast as he could, just barely being out infront of the blue dragoness.

Ryka focused only on going faster, faster. She tuned out all of Inferno's maneuvers. She knew He wouldn't cut her off, and if he tried, then he'd find his wings pulling him upward on an... unexpectedly well timed thermal. He ended slowly inching forward, yelling I told you so. Ryka's only response was a smile and a laugh as she dropped her angle, building up great speed before gliding level. She again angled herself barely upward, continuing to push her wings. She couldn't feel her muscles ache anymore. She fought the temptation to use her fire magic to create a thermal to launch them both much higher into the air. It would throw him off, but it wouldn't be fair. Or fun. Ryka smiled again and pulled herself into a more streamlined position, just barely keeping up. She reached the same altitude as him again and flapped her wings in time to her heart, pounding against her ribcage. For 20 feet less of wingspan, she wasn't doing too bad.

Inferno looked back behind him, seeing her right behind him. He smiled, beating his wings faster than he could. This was one of those times his size was working against him as his wings would not beat any faster. He knew he could lose, but even if he did, he was a red, he would be poud of his win or loss as if he had won even though this race was almost over.

The red Wyvern was far from tired, but, he couldn't go any faster, Ryka however it seemed, was managing to go faster and faster. The red Wyvern had to admit, she wasn't half bad at flying at all. Inferno roared back to her, Your not half bad, for a blue that is. that playfulness back in his voice as he turned his back around, continuing to fly.

Ryka smiled slightly when she saw he wouldn't go any faster. Her own wings ached slightly, but she continued at her pace. She would feel the fatigue tomorrow, but she didn't care. She could climb if she had to. She heard him shout back to her that she wasn't half bad for a blue. Ryka smiled and chuckled slightly. And you're pretty good, even for a red. But you'd better keep your eyes on the sky, you don't want to crash! She no longer cared if she won or lost, she was having fun. It had been a while since she had enjoyed flying this much. They must be getting close to the tree by now, for even though the race had felt long, it must have only taken a few minutes based on their speeds.

Inferno laughed, it coming out as bellows as he turned his head. Yeah, we wouldn't want that, would we now? He laughed at this, turning his around, seeing the Tree just ahead. Thank goodness, I feel I'd lose if it were any further He thought to himself. He swooped down at a diagonal angle, shooting straight back infront of the trees entrance. He flew back and landed, standing proudly. I win. He whispered so as to not wake the others who were still asleep. The red looked out onto the horizon, seeing the bright red morning sun very slowly starting to show signs of rising. It must be morning Ryka. He tells her, feeling a little akward. He opened his wings up, before folding them back against his sides. His wings would be sore later, but for now, he just took in the moment. It wasn't often he got to see this happen, and he wanted to watch for as long as he could.

Ryka saw the tree come into view and angled her descent towards it. She slowed her descent just slightly so that she wouldn't risk crashing into him as she landed. Her claws hit the soft earth only a few moments after his. She heard him whisper that he won and she smiled before whispering back. It was a close race. I say, you're quite the flier. She admired his skill, as he didn't seem tired or worn in the slightest. Ryka listened for noises of others stirring, but heard nothing. Her wings felt slightly numb and her heartbeat was slowing to it's usual speed as the adrenaline from the flight began to fade. She heard Inferno mention something about it being morning already and turned to look at the sky, the deep hues of night giving way to the pale glow of dawn. Ryka smiled, sunrises were always breathtaking. Such a shame that they couldn't last.

He chuckled lightly as she said it was a close race and that he quite the flier. I've had much practice, believe me Ryka, much practice. The proud red laughed as he yawned. His massive white fangs coming into full view for a few seconds before he closed his mouth. I wish I'd seen a sunrise before now, it would look all the more better. He thought to himself.

The reed Wyvern turned his head down to Ryka, his fin spike giving off the fiery light, barely able to be seen in the sunlight. Ryka. Inferno said to her, I've never seen a sunrise before, what do they look like? He asked. He was now feeling even more awkward than he already was, but felt he had to ask her so he wouldn't look like a fool looking at the sun longer than he had to.

Ryka watched him yawn, exposing his fangs for a few moments. She smiled for a fraction of a second at seeing a chink in his "armor". She turned her attention to the sky again, only turning back to Inferno when he said her name. When he asked her what a sunrise looked like, she chuckled, still not taking her eyes off the light. Well.... I guess if you had to describe it, it's almost like.... Almost like if you combined a flame, a backwards sunset, and the thing that humans call the northern lights... She slid her eyes over to look at him, the glow from his spike being swallowed by the light of the sunrise. It's easier to just see it than to have someone describe it. Already the sky had changed from pale rose pink to the golden yellow that came just before the sky began taking on it's characteristic blue.

Inferno listened intently as she spoke. He looked back out as the sun rose. It was beautiful to the red Wyvern, as he sighed heavily before scratching around his chin spikes. He yawned yet again, as he stood up. I guess I'll be heading in for the night, or day, whatever you want to call it. I'll see you later Ryka. He growled as he folded his wings in close and turned around. He slowly disappeared into the Tree as the sun rise began. He stopped however, and turned back, wanting so bad to finally see one.
