![]() The summer heat was infuriatingly powerful in the desert. It reminded him a bit like volcanoes. He traveled all the way from his homeland to here which is thousands of miles away. Phoenix was high in the sky, flapping his odd shaped wings and heading toward the lake to take a few drinks and relax a little. He couldn't believe that he managed to make a new life here. Nix was afraid that it would fail but he managed it. Now he could live in a new Clan and no one would suspect him because none would know his past. Well unless some of his old comrades manage to make it here and blabber it all out. Then his new life that he is trying to make would be lost. Well maybe if he would tell everyone first, maybe they might forgive him and that. Though he find it very unlikely, none of them would want him around if they knew the truth about him. Phoenix kept his scales flat, giving him more speed as he dived downward to the sandy grounds, his two tails wiggling behind him as he curved his wings around him. His emerald teal green eyes narrowed as he gained closer to the earth. The fire and ruby colored dragon opened his wings to full length and span. He just missed the sand dunes as he flew, curving around, dodging the dunes and going down closer to Lake Lorigara. With his legs outstretched he landed and felt hot sand touch paws. He padded out of the sand and on grass which wasn't much and went over to the lake. He set his paws in the water and sighed at the cool water soothing his aching hot feet. Phoenix thought maybe he should have joined a different Clan but then again he likes the desert. Not at all like his old home and that's just what he wants. If he had joined Furick Clan he would be reminded constantly of his homeland, be reminded of the family that took him in, the invasion and the loss of his mate. He shook his head, all he has to do is get used to the desert and he would be fine. Anyway he is also the new beta of the Clan and that leaves him responsibilities. He can take lots of responsibility, he isn't out here as being stressed he's here to take a drink and cool down a little. Phoenix knelt his head down and started to drink in the cool water. The liquid was already cooling his insides down. Yet his scales were still really hot and thought maybe he could take a short swim. Instead however, he went deeper into the water and lied down, most of his body was now covered in the cool water. Phoenix sighed, letting the tension down as he tried to relax a little longer. |

Summer had always been hot in Kukiron, but today was just brutally hot. Having such dark coloration certainly wasn't helping her any either. Tenebrae squinted her eyes to try to see though the heat shimmering off the sand below. Her feathered wings beat steady strokes through the hot dry air, propelling her forward. She began thinking of the bone dragon she had met a while ago on a day similar to this one. He had made it clear that if he wanted to harm her, he could have easily done so. That his heart was long dead. That he was not one to associate with. But he had seemed curious too, probably about why she had talked to him. She shook the thoughts from her head. True, he hadn't hurt her, but that was probably because that voice in his head made him crumble to pieces. If she ran into him again, then he'd probably pull her under the sand, like he had threatened. She noticed that she was near the lake now, and began to prepare for a landing. A swim would be a welcome relief from the heat. Her paws hit the overheated sand with a soft thump. The tiny grains burned slightly, so she trotted quickly into the water. The water felt cool and refreshing in her furlike scales. It was only now that she noticed the other dragon. He was submerged mostly in the water, his head and neck looking red in color. Tene thought she recognized him, but couldn't quite place his name. |

![]() Nix was about to get up and lay under the trees on the other end of the lake. He thought they would hold enough shade for him so he could take a short nap. And when he wakes up he would head back. He got to his paws and noticed there was a dragoness looking at him. Nix blinked at her dark form, she looked nearly black but he could tell from the harsh sun light that she was just a real dark blue. She was also a sceather by the looks of it. She looks beautiful too, a royal type of beautiful dragon. In Surdia, that is his homeland there are basically two types of dragons, royal types that are beautiful and graceful or big and strong, and there are the portons that are small and weak. Though he isn't the type that judged them, he actually had lots of friends that were portons, his own mate was a porton. At that time it was forbidden to even really talk to portons let alone play with them or have them as your mate. But Nietheuz was beautiful and graceful like any royal, as beautiful as this female. He did not dare say that though. It was awkward enough as it is as everything was so silent. Phoenix shook his head and looked at the female one more time. Huh, hi, sorry I did not mean to bother you. He bit back as beautiful as you part. He had no reason to try and find another mate and besides he doesn't deserve another mate, not what he did. Phoenix tried to play that he didn't care and padded out of the water mostly. His front paws touched the sand as his hind legs and two tips of his tail was in the water. He shook his coat, getting the water out of his body but keeping his scales flat. Mostly dry he looked up at the female again. So what is your name? He asked, licking his shoulder and nipping the reed's off of his long red spikes on his elbows. Phoenix felt it slither off of him and he let it fall on the sand. He turned back to the female and realized that he didn't give his name to her, just asked who she was. Oops, I just remembered it isn't polite to ask someone's name and not give them theirs. Phoenix admitted and felt a little hot and most of that heat isn't from the blazing sun. My name is Phoenix. He introduced himself to her. In his mind he kept saying Phoenix over and over, keeping it in mind that its his name. He had been using that name for a few years now but sometimes it just makes him feel a little off and he needs to say it over and over to keep it in check. Most of his life he was called by a different name with a different life. However that dragon died that day. He is known as Phoenix and will forever have that name. |

Tene watched the other dragon stand up. His wings were very different than any she had seen before. They reminded her of butterfly wings in their shape, but the colors were almost like flames. She didn't realize that she'd been staring until he looked her way. She flicked her eyes away from his wings and gave a sheepish smile. Her gaze wandered up to his eyes, her curiosity getting the better of her. The number of deaths there were many, not surprising seeing the scar over his right eye. What surprised her was that one of them had been his mate. She pulled her eyes away, feeling that she had overstepped her bounds again. The silence was starting to feel awkward now, but it wasn't long before his words broke the tension. He gave an almost embaressed sounding hi, then apologized if he had been bothering her. Tene shook her head. You weren't bothering me at all. The heat of her unseen blush rivaled the sun above. She wondered what he had been thinking. Maybe he had though it odd that such a dark colored dragoness would be in a desert clan. Brushing the thought and assumptions away, she noticed him shaking the water off his scales and wings. He asked her name and began pulling water reeds from the crimson spikes on his elbows, then remembered that he hadn't given his own name. Tene couldn't help giving a small smile at that. He introduced himself as Pheonix, which struck her as a fitting name. It's nice to meet you. I'm Tenebrae. Most will just use Tene for short though. It was funny; the name she called herself was a name that hadn't even been given to her by her real parents, but a name given to her by a sympathetic dragon who found it in his heart to care for her. To be her Father when hers was gone, despite losing his mate. |

![]() He still felt awkward, he hadn't really talked to other dragons for years. All he pretty much did was travel, finding this place. He knew there were other lands, other Clans and dragons to be with but he heard that Selzar was the best one. It has many lands, and four friendly Clans. So he decided to try and find a Clan he could join here. He mostly avoided other dragons, not knowing what kind of dragons they were and that. However he did meet some dragons that did tell him of Selzar but that has been real few. Now that he is in a Clan, full of many dragons it gets a little awkward for him. He was used to being alone. Why he decided to live in a Clan was because he wanted to be a true dragon again. To live alone is to not live at all. In the years alone he had time to think about his whole life, he had no one to talk to and no friends. It was one of the few things that he missed in his old Clan, his friends that he had made. Finally the female answered him. |

Tene saw him smile when she said he wasn't bothering her. It was a tiny smile, but still a thankful one. His eyes though betrayed him, showing slight sorrow in their teal green irises. Tene saw different lives lost now, parents and siblings, brought to the surface with memory. She was tempted to try to comfort him, but held herself back. There was no telling what he would do if he found out that she knew. For a moment, a close friend's death also appeared in his eyes, but in a moment they were all hidden beneath his mate's death again. She wouldn't ask; after all, she had no real right to know. After introduced herself, he said it was nice to meet her too. There was a pause, as if he were thinking, then he asked if she was the Kukiron deltess. Tene nodded. That's me. And, correct me if I'm mistaken, but you're the new Beta, right? She tilted her head slightly to one side. Her memory was okay, but sometimes it was less than spot on. It was better to be safe than sorry. How do you like the clan so far? She shifted into a sitting position as she waited for his answer. |

![]() The dragon could see her wanting to walk over to him, he could see it in her body language and the way she was looking at him. However there was no way she could know. She just met him, he didn't say anything about his past. He doesn't want her to know, doesn't want her to hear his story. Phoenix abandoned that life a long time ago, he had told himself never to tell anyone about it. He thought that if he doesn't he would forget and move on. Yet his heart is just so hollow and every time he thinks about it, it just made him feel worse. He pushed those down and listened as Tene spoke. He opened his mouth the answer when he heard a fish leap out of the water. His stomach growled and got an idea. Nix got to his paws and turned to her, huh... be right back. He turned away and padded deep in the lake two a jumble of rocks. He stepped up on them and knelt down, looking deep in the water. Nix waited, looking at the moving forms. He used to do this lots of times at home, it was easier in the rivers but on the other side of the rocks leaves to a bend and to reeds. Fish goes there too and they have to travel through these rocks to get to the places where there is a good feeding for them. He abandoned all thoughts, ignoring the sound of the wind and the birds far off and breathing softly so the scents of the area doesn't bother his concentration. Nix looked and waited... waited... waited... keeping his eyes on the fish. He kept his eye on one, moved slightly ahead, memorizing its movements. Quick and graceful he plunged his muzzle in the water and felt his sharp teeth punch scale and his tongue feeling the fish's scales. He pulled it out of the water and with his paw he placed it on the rock to stop its wiggling and killed it swiftly. With one of his two end tails he curled it around the fish and held it as looked back in the water. His tails are strong and slightly, to gain more grip on the fish he bristled his scales a big at the tip where it stabbed at the fish a bit keeping a nice grip. Phoenix concentrated again, waited and waited, turned to look where it was going. Again as quickly as a snake he plunged in and took another large fish out of the water. He set it down on the rock with his paw on it again and bit down hard. There he caught two large fish. With the fish in his maw he stepped back in the water and walked over to the female. He walked up to her and dropped the fish in his paw close to her paws and turned away. He span to face her and lied down. The tail that held the other fish went between his front paws and let it fall down. Now he had something to eat. I hope your hungry, sorry I should have asked if you wanted something to eat... He trailed off, feeling embarrassed. He relayed her questions now and opened his maw to answer them. As for the questions, yes I am the new beta. He stopped himself from saying that he thought he didn't deserve such a high rank. After the failure in leading his Clan that day he doesn't even deserve to be in a Clan little alone be in second command in one. And I like it so far, hot... not at all like my homeland. But I think I can grow to get used to it. Nix took a bite out of the fish and chewed a little to crush the scales down so they won't hurt his throat. He gulped it and felt a tiny bit refreshed, especially how cold it was, cooling his insides down a little. The fish taste different than home too. |

Tene saw Nix open his mouth to answer, then stopped as his stomach rumbled. He gave a be right back and dove into the lake. She watched, curious, as he swum to a pile of rocks jutting up above the surface. He clamored on top of them and leaned forward, as if searching for something. Tene smiled at how his posture resembled a gargoyle. She used her magic to pull some water from the lake into a small orb, the froze the exterior to make a clear shell, being sure to leave some water unfrozen in the middle and yet make the shell thick enough to carve. She tossed it gently into the air and used her wind magic and water magic in tandem to suspend it in midair. Carefully, she turned it with one paw and carved with her other. Curved lines and swirls began to turn into a dragon shape. Tene looked up to see the Nix had leaned even further over the water. Holding the orb in front of her, she kept carving the figure into the ice surface. The shape started becoming more defined. It was a profile of a dragon, sitting on rocks and leaning far over the surface of a lake. He had two tails and wings that looked like a butterfly's. Spikes branched off the back of his legs and behind his ears and on his split tail. With some embarrassment, Tene realized that she had carved Pheonix's very position into the ice. With one fluid movement, she used her fire magic to heat her paw, which she ran over the carving, melting the ice flat where she touched it, then tossed the ball of ice into the lake. It bobbed back and forth, sun glinting off its polished surface. Soon the sun would return the ice entirely into the lake. Tene looked up to see what Nix was doing now. A fish was held in one of his tail tendrils and he had plunged his head beneath the surface. In moments, he had resurfaced, now with a fish held between his teeth. He stepped on it, killing it swiftly. She figured that he had killed the first one the same way. She saw him get off the rocks and walk back to where she had been standing the whole time. He dropped the second fish by her paw an blinked at it. She had thought he was catching both fish for himself. He settled down with his own fish between his paws and apologized, saying he should've asked if she were hungry. No, I don't mind, Thank you. Tenebrae said, somewhat sheepishly realizing that she hadn't thanked him, only stared at the fish. She lay down too, moving the fish between her paws similar to how Nix was sitting. Now he answered her questions. He said, that yes, he was the new Beta. There was a slight pause, as if he wanted to say something else, but had bitten off the words before they left his mouth. He said he liked it so far, it was warmer than what he was used to, not like his homeland at all. But he would grow used to it, he said. Tene nodded. Most do. The ones who can't often go to Furick or Juthivar and visit occasionally. He took a bite of his fish, then remarked that they tasted different from his homeland's too. Tene shrugged. It probably has something to do with the differing minerals in the water or their food. She took a bite of her own fish, swallowing it after a few chews. She hadn't given much thought to their flavor before; they had always just been the flavor of fish to her. It was true that it did vary from region to region, but never much, and she didn't remember what fish had tasted like outside of Selzar. A wave of curiosity overcame her thoughts. What was your homeland like, Pheonix? |

![]() He was so worried of them figuring out his past. He just did not say much but worked hard. The day he showed his true self was when the leaders thought it best to put him in a high rank such as beta. He wished that he hadn't, wished that he just kept that side of him buried inside just like the rage that was unleashed that day. Yet it was with him for so long that making orders and taking control of difficult situations was basically apart of him, it was who he was. Phoenix blinked, back into the present when Tene spoke. Well... Phoenix paused, collecting his words. He smiled and paused on the fish. It's far away from here, thousands of miles away and that. Yet it is really beautiful, it has many mountains, more than you can count. There are canyons and lots of rivers and beautiful forests and meadows. You can't believe the lakes there, there was a huge one under a huge hole in the canyons. It was filled with waterfalls and caverns, in winter its just a dazzling beauty. However nothing matches the greatness of Stone Castle. In the mountains there is a huge castle made up in stone in a mountain. Its abandoned by the humans a long time ago, now a Clan of dragons live there... He trailed off and a pained look reached his face. Just talking about his home makes him home sick, he mist Irisha Lake, the name of the lake he had described. Nix shook his head and took a bite of his fish and swallowing it. So, what about you, were you born in Selzar or in another homeland? |

Tene saw him meet her gaze with his own. The sunlight lightened his eyes to a beautiful clear green. Something in them seemed a bit… lighter than when they had begun talking. As if some hidden pain had been forgotten for a bit. She moved her gaze away as she remembered a rumor she had heard about him. How he hadn’t specified a position, but had been given Beta due to his leadership skills. Some had said that it was almost as if he had led before. She began to wonder, if maybe, he had once been an Alpha somewhere, and something happened to his clan. Some fight or war that drove him away. It would explain the death he’d seen and his unwillingness to speak about his past- but no. It was not her place to know, to pry. She brushed all the thoughts away as she waited for him to answer her question about his homeland. Tene watched as Pheonix yanked himself from a reverie, looking somewhat embarrassed. She smiled lightly; he reminded her of a youngling staring into space for a minute. He began to weave an image with his words. He said it was miles away, and had many mountains, more than could be counted. There were canyons and lots of rivers, and beautiful forests and meadows. The lakes were unbelievable, he continued, there was a huge one filled with waterfalls and caverns and in winter it was dazzling. Tene wished for a moment she could see it. But nothing, he said, matched the greatness of the Stone Castle. It was a huge castle in the mountains that had been built, and subsequently abandoned, by humans. Now a clan of dragons lived there. She saw a pained look fill Pheonix’s face, and filled in what he had not said. They had been his clan. It twisted at her heart to see it, but as quickly as the emotion appeared, it vanished from his face. He asked her about whether she had been born in Selzar or another homeland. Tene nodded once. I too, was born in a place far from here. She tilted her head lightly and stared at the sky, trying to remember as much as she could. [/b]It was mostly forest where I lived, but I remember some things about it that were breathtaking.[/b] She closed her eyes slightly, almost seeing the places before her very eyes. There was a huge network of caves and all sorts of underground lakes. They were usually under hills, so you could be in this tight little tunnel one moment and in a vast cavern the next. Sometimes the roof had fallen away, so the light would play on the water or the stars could be seen. She took a breath before continuing. There was only one real mountain, but it was like a pillar to the sky. The view from the top was amazing; you could even see the sea. She opened her eyes and looked back at Pheonix. But that’s all I really remember, since I left there when I was eight. I spent two years looking for here after hearing rumors, and well.. she chuckled low in her throat …As you can see, I haven’t left. |

![]() For a moment there he thought that Tene knew something, knew what he had skipped to hide his disgrace. Yet she didn't say anything about it and he just hoped she doesn't and doesn't tell anyone that he was hiding something from everyone. He knew that they would ask, would want to know more about him than he lets on. They already figured he must have been a leader before the way he takes control. He knew that they whisper about it, a few days after becoming beta he was about to get something to eat, passing a group of dragons that were talking about something in whispers. They stopped and stared at him or would pretend to eat when he came near. Phoenix wondered if he could stay here, make a living and forget about his past. He wondered if he could be free. It's like his past life is made of chains and he's shackled, tangled in them and can't get free. What if they find out, they would hate and fear him, they won't want him as their beta little alone be in their Clan. Well if he does go into exile he would have to leave Selzar and find another place to live because he doubted that the other Clans would want him, Kukiron would most likely warn them about him. No he can't tell anyone, he mustn't let anyone know of who he is and what he had done. He nearly missed Tene describing the land she was born in. |

(sorry for the massive delay, this totally slipped my mind until just now XD) Tene could almost see him envisioning the places she had described in his head, and once again saw the weight and half-hidden hurt disappear from Nix's eyes, but it soon became clouded with what looked like pain and slight disgust. He began speaking about how he too didn't want to leave, and that he had traveled too long to get here that leaving would just be a waste of effort. Tene titled her head. It had seemed like those last words had been directed at her and himself as well. Are you okay Pheonix? You didn't look like you felt too well just then. There was something else here; something he hadn't told her, and if she had guessed right, he hadn't told anyone else in the clan either. Just before she could ask him what was wrong, he finished his fish, stood and asked her if she'd like to go for a swim. Her chance to ask was gone, so she merely smiled. I'd love to. She too, swallowed the remains of her fish and stood. She smiled wider and more playfully this time. Maybe a bit of fun would help him forget what was on his mind for a bit. Biggest splash wins. She ran towards the water, but just after it hit her paws, she lifted into the air and glided just above the surface of the lake. Pulling up sharply, she rose nearly straight vertical into the sky before closing her eyes and letting herself fall, inverting and spiraling down into the cool water. Her speed had pulled her somewhat deep below the surface, but she rose quickly. Her head rose above the surface and her lungs filled with air. Orienting herself parallel to the water, Tene waved to Pheonix with the end of her tail, letting him know that she was okay. She'd seen others do that dive before, and if you weren't used to it, you'd think they had just fallen out of the sky. |
