It was during a very sunny afternoon that Sarge came down to the Lake of Suron for a much needed rest. He had trained a little that day, but most of his exhaustion was due to Silvera kidnapping him to help clear away the debris of a recent landslide that had blocked off a rather popular stream. With his earth magic, Sarge was qualified for the task, but it had still drained him. Now, took a long gulp of refreshingly cool water, before wading in and settling down in the shallows, relaxing his muscles and sighing as he immersed himself in the water. Liara was at their den, tending to their eggs. Sarge was planning on grabbing a couple of deer for their dinner, but only after he had recovered from landslide recovery duty. If Liara wanted to leave the den to be with Sarge, hunt for food, or just take a fly, she could ask Aries to watch their eggs for them; Sarge had picked a den close to his sister's. In fact, Sarge hoped Liara would come out and find him. He heard the sound of wing beats, and Sarge looked up, hoping to see Liara flying towards him with her beautiful smile. Instead, however, he saw another female, one he didn't know. Like most dragons, she was larger than Sarge, slightly larger than Liara in fact. Her scales were a light green with a slight iridescent sheen to her scales. Overall, she was a rather pretty dragoness, with a cheerful expression on her face. Sarge gave her a slight nod in greeting, before closing his eyes and lowering his head into the water. The female, however, seemed intent on socialization. "Hi there little one!" the dragoness said, "I'm not disturbing you, am I? You seem kinda sulky" Sarge was include to say yes, but he had promised his sister and his mate that he would work on his socialization skills, so Sarge deigned to be more diplomatic. No, of course not, Sarge said, pulling his head out of the water to look more presentable, It's not like this lake is mine or something. But please refrain from calling me "little one." I think I'm past that stage at 23 years old. The dragoness blinked, blushing slightly at the revelation. "Oh, I'm sorry!" she said, "It's just... well you're kinda small, and I..." Yes, yes, I know, Sarge said, rolling his eyes, I get that a lot. "I have to say, though... you do look kinda cute," the dragoness said, "My name is Kyra. What's yours?" Sergeant, Sarge said, Or Sarge, for short. "Sergeant?" Kyra asked, cocking her head to one side, "That's a... funny name." She blinked at what she said, before quickly adding, "But a nice one!" Sarge rolled his eyes again, saying, Yes, I get that a lot, too. Kyra blushed again, and looked into the horizon, to hide her embarrassment. "So... um... it's a nice day out, isn't it?" Kyra asked, trying to move along the conversation, before she remembered something, "Oh, did you see that landslide that blocked off just about everyone's favorite creek?" Yes. Yes I did, Sarge said, his voice deadpan, I also cleaned it up. I moved boulders for four hours and all I got for it was a stupid sprained leg. Why is that stream everyone's favorite, anyway? There's a flipping lake just a few minutes flight away. Kyra laughed at Sarge's comment, before moving closer to him a bit. "I like you, you're funny," Kyra said, "If you'd like, I can heal your sprain for you. I know healing magic." Sarge looked up at Kyra, before nodding slightly. Yes, I would appreciate that very much, Sarge said. Kyra smiled brightly at him and went to work, quickly healing up the sprain. She inspected her handiwork, before looking at Sarge and asking, "Better?" Sarge flexed his healed leg experimentally, before nodding. Yes, much better, Sarge said, Thank you. Kyra smiled her bright smile again, before nuzzling his shoulder. "No problem! What are friends for?" she said. Sarge blinked at the bodily contact, but decided to ignore it. Kyra was the bubbly, boisterous type who was more liberal with bodily contact, so Sarge didn't think much of it. For about the next hour or so, Sarge and Kyra chatted rather amicably, Kyra growing more and more friendly and affectionate of Sarge. Sarge weathered through it all; he didn't want to hurt Kyra's feelings. She was a nice dragon. "I really like you, Sarge," Kyra said, eventually, as she laid next to Sarge, "You're funny and cute and... and... you listen to me when I talk..." You're a likable person, Kyra, Sarge said, But what do you mean by I listen to you talk? Kyra dropped her head a bit, her ears folding back against her head. "A lot of dragons don't like me when I talk a lot," Kyra said, her expression growing sad, "That or they just ignore me..." Well, perhaps you should slow down a bit, Sarge suggested, and a surprisingly altruistic idea formed in his mind, Not everyone is willing to have a full blown conversation with a stranger. I usually don't. But honestly? You should have no problem making friends. I'll tell you what. I'll help you work on your socializing skills, help you fix what makes people want to ignore you or make you go away. How does that sound? Kyra's eyes widened at Sarge's offer. "...Really? You'd do that for me?" Kyra asked him, not quite believing him. Hey, what are friends for? Sarge said, grinning back at her. Kyra's expression brightened considerably, and she nuzzled his cheek this time. "Thanks Sarge!" she said, "You're a great friend." Edited by Sarge, Aug 26 2010, 11:16 PM.

Liara laid next to her eggs, keeping them against her body while wrapping her tail around them. It felt nice to feel their protective shells against her scales, knowing that they were hers and would never ever change. She loved them with all her heart already, even though they weren't out yet. When they came, she knew she would be the best mother ever. And then there was Sarge, being by her side the whole way. They would watch together as their young hatched and thrived together. They would see them grow and become individual dragons, becoming who they want to be. Most of all, teaching them about their magic. That would be a fun subject to get into. But the day was wearing thin, and she thought Sarge would be back by now. He probably got caught up in that river block that her neighbors were gossiping about outside the den entrance. Apparently he had gone to help with his expertise in earth magic for Silvera. Finding him would be easy, so she wanted to do that. Gently getting up and making sure she didn't move the eggs, she flew over to Aries's den and asked her if she could watch the eggs while she was gone. After she agreed, Liara took off immediately, excited to see her mate again. His trail was still there, as the wind brought along his scent. Flying on a gentle updraft, she finally caught sight of him in the water. Dropping down into the trees, she tried to stay quiet because she smelled another scent. It was unfamiliar, she knew, and she was sure she saw a glint of green when she went down. Eavesdropping was a bad thing to do, but the temptation was too great. Besides, she wanted to prove to Sarge that socializing was a good thing to do. He must have flown to the lake to rest, as she saw him in the water. But he wasn't the only one. Her hackles rose as she spotted a female right next to him, and becoming physical. She crouched down to stay hidden, staying within earshot as she peered through the trees. If she made one more move, she would jump out and confront her. But if he made the move, she knew things would get ugly. She had to see it from him. Already, there were mixed emotions within her as she fought to keep control; this female was flirting with her mate, and she couldn't imagine for how long. The thought scared her. Staying behind was torment, but she had to be sure. |

Sarge smiled a little as Kyra told him she considered him a great friend. He could see where Liara and Aries were coming from; making friends felt good. And while Kyra may have been a little on the chatty and perhaps ever so slightly on the ditsy side, she was a nice female at heart. Idly, Sarge wondered if he could find another friend for her, or perhaps hunt out a male she might like when he accompanied her for socialization lessons; Sarge had the feeling that Kyra may bond to him and leave him with little time to himself, though Liara would always come first. At the thought of Liara, Sarge realize that it was getting late, and Liara was probably worried about him. It was time to go, so he picked himself up out of the water, before looking at Kyra. It's getting late and I've gotta go, Sarge said, Talk to you later, Kyra. Kyra perked her head up and looked at him as he picked himself up, then whined slightly when he said he had to leave, before sighing, resigned. "Okay, but you have to give me a kiss," she said, perking up slightly and presenting her cheek to him. Sarge blinked at her request, before closing his eyes, sighing. Kyra, I really shouldn't- "Awww, come on," Kyra said, pouting slightly, "Pleeeeeeeaaaaaaaa-" Alright, alright! Sarge said, cutting her off and rolling his eyes. He leaned his snout forward and gave her a quick lick on the cheek, as per her request. There. Now I've got to go, Sarge said, I'll meet you at the lake in a couple of days, alright? "Okay Sargie!" Kyra said, waving her tail as he opened his wings and flew off. Cripes, Sarge thought as he flew off, It's a good thing no one saw me, or they might think I'm cheating on Liara... Heh. No way in hell that'll happen. Sarge turned towards the plains to grab dinner for himself and Liara, though his exertion earlier that day slowed him down, and it took him quite a bit longer than it usually did. Eventually however, he grabbed the meals, and headed back to his den. |

Liara waited for their conversation to end, and she was happy that Sarge wasn't giving the female anything. In fact, it appeared to be like he was being careful not to hurt the dragoness's feelings, but it still bugged her at what was taking place. However, the sub was going down as she lay on her belly in the forest, her eyes glued to the two figures ahead. There seemed to be somewhat of a commotion when he told her he had to leave. The female seemed to get worked up, begging him for something. Instantly, Liara grew angry and confused with the look on Sarge's face. Then in seconds, her heart breaking, she watched as Sarge himself kiss the female on the cheek, and oh was she exuberant. Tears started coming from her eyes quickly as she saw Sarge fly away. He was probably going to hunt before going to the den as he was going in another direction. The female still was there, acting very giddy but she wasn't going to take anymore of it. So she flew out from trees, making sure Sarge didn't see her as she quickly flown to her den. How could he just cheat on her like that when they had beautiful eggs that would soon hatch in their den. Why would he take such a risk? Thoughts were pouring into her mind non stop as she landed in the den. Tears leaked onto the floor as she laud back in the same position next to her eggs. She shrugged off Aries's questions but she finally went away. Liara tried to pull herself together when she saw Sarge with deer in his mouth coming toward her. |

Sarge landed at the den entrance and stepped inside, seeing Liara sitting in their nest. He smiled at her through the deer he was holding, before padding up to her and depositing in front of her, nudging it towards her with his nose. Hey honey, Sarge said, craning his neck forward to gently nuzzle her cheek, I brought some dinner. Sorry if it isn't much; I was a bit tired today after helping out with clearing that landslide. He came over to her and settled down next to her in the nest, and nuzzled her neck. Go ahead and eat up first, he said, I'll finish up whatever is left. He looked up at Liara expectantly, before noticing that she looked distressed. She was trying to hide it, but Sarge could see it clearly. Concerned, he placed a paw over hers, and unfolded his wing over her back. Liara? Honey? Sarge asked, looking up at her, Is something wrong? Are you okay? Edited by Sarge, Aug 28 2010, 09:18 PM.

Sarge dropped the deer in front of her, but frankly, she was sick to her stomach at the moment. He went down to nuzzle her cheek, but Liara moved away from the gesture. She didn't want him to touch her after kissing that female. When he told her to eat up, she simply continued to stay there, looking at the ground and not moving. He noticed her distress easily, laying next to her and putting a wing over her. She couldn't take it any more. Almost at once, she crawled out from under his wing, walking towards the entrance of the den. Already there were tears welling up in her eyes, but she turned away so he wouldn't notice them. Having him here in her den, next to her eggs, and now he was a traitor. How could he do such a thing to her? The thought of him cheating was horrendous, but she saw him herself kiss the fem in the water of the lake. Yeah, everything's fine. Just need... fresh air. Then Liara jumped into the air, tears beginning to run down her cheeks as she headed far away from the Tree. She entered the Valley, trying to find a secluded spot for her under the trees. There was a clearing nearby, so she landed and kept close to the trees. Once she did that, she collapsed onto the ground and sobbed. There was nothing she could to stop those fresh tears, so filled with anger and sadness that her heart felt like it would explode. She hid her head under her wing, feeling the ground soak up her tears and cover her wing. All she could do was cry and cry. Maybe her young would grow up with no father. The thought brought more tears to her eyes. |

Her tail twitched slowly from side to side, the only movement as she sat among the trees. Several deer moved amongst the trees in front of her. The faint breeze carried their scents to her while shielding her own from them. A few more seconds... 3... 2... 1... The blue dragoness shot forward as if she were attempting to chase down a hell beast itself. She caught the nearest deer around the neck and twisted, snapping it's neck and ending it's life while the others scattered in all directions further into the woods. Now for her favorite part of the hunt - enjoying her kill. The deer now little more than bones, Ryka ran her tongue over her teeth and tried to wipe away the blood around her muzzle the best she could. It was probably worth a dunk in the lake though, just to be safe. She made her way to the treeline and let her wings unfurl. Pushing herself off the ground with her hind legs, Ryka oriented herself so she was flying in the direction of the lake; ironically, that meant flying back over the woods. She flew lazily over the trees, half in a haze, until she faintly spotted a purple dragoness in a clearing. She circled the clearing once silently, now hearing the sounds of muffled sobs filter up to her. Ryka landed quietly in the clearing, near the edge of the trees opposite the dragoness. She recognized her as Liara, one of her clanmates. She had a clutch of eggs that were probably now close to hatching, Ryka remembered. So now why was she sobbing? Ryka stepped closer to the crying dragoness. Liara? Are you alright? What happened? She kept her voice gentle as she continued to move closer to Liara, until she was sitting a few feet in front of her. Something bad had to have happened; she remembered hearing that Liara was hardly in a bad mood these days, with her eggs and mate. That was probably it. Ryka nuzzled the purple dragoness gently on the neck, to try to reassure her. Why aren't you with your eggs? Did something happen to them? Or to Sarge? She thought that was the name of Liara's mate. |

Liara continued to sob, not realizing how loud she actually was. Frankly, she didn't think there could be anyone who could change the thoughts racing through her mind and stop the emotions filtering throughout her system. She didn't hear the wing beats from above her until she felt the thuds of someone walking up to her, but she stayed under her wing and cried. It was a familiar voice she heard, Ryka, she remembered who was a part of her clan. Her first questions were blanked out until she heard her ask why she wasn't with her eggs, and if something was wrong with them or Sarge. The sound of his name made Liara scream in emotional pain. She felt her claws dig deep into the earth, her talons digging into the palm of her paw. Her voice was hoarse as she tried to get out the words. He... He... He kissed another female. I-I saw him with m-my own eyes. The sobs continued as she put her head back under her wing. He cheated o-on me! We have eggs and he still did it! |

Sarge blinked as Liara shied away from his touch, and immediately slipped out form under his wing, going over to the entrance of the den. Yeah, everything's fine. Just need... fresh air. Liara said, then without any further explanation, jumped off into the air, leaving Sarge confused, concerned, and slightly hurt. Sarge didn't know what was wrong, but he did know that something was definitely wrong. It hurt Sarge that Liara didn't want to talk about it with him, and he briefly considered going after her and asking her what was wrong. No, Sarge thought, Whatever it is, Liara wants to be alone right now. I have no right to intrude on her privacy. So Sarge curled up in the nest alone, with only his and Liara's eggs to keep him company, shivering as a cold night wind blew in from the den's entrance. Edited by Sarge, Aug 30 2010, 06:57 PM.

As soon as Ryka said Sarge's name, Liara began screaming. Whatever happened, she thought, I've just made it worse. It had to have been something with Sarge though, or she wouldn't have screamed that way... or clenched her claws so much that they were now slicing tiny wounds into her paw. Liara continued in a hoarse voice, but just barely struggling to get out her words. Through her heavy sobs, she said she had seen Sarge kiss another female - that he was cheating on her, even though they had eggs. Ryka padded quietly next to Liara and folded a pale blue wing over the other dragoness' weeping form, pulling her gently into a hug-like gesture. It'll be alright Liara. Ive seen how Sage looks at you; I don't think he'd cheat on you. That other dragoness probably asked him to do that as a joke, or maybe she's a childhood friend. Or he could've just not been seeing straight and for a moment, thought she was you- but that's hardly likely, since there's no way she could've come close to you. Ryka used some of her water magic to dry some of the tears rolling off Liara's face and gave her a small smile. You don't really know unless you talk to him, but you're his mate. He truly loves you, and nothing of this world or the next will change that. |
